It’s no secret that the New York Knicks are in a bad way. After striking out on several key free agents this summer, they fired coach David Fizdale in the midst of another disastrous season.
But even in the midst of all their struggles, there is a glimmer of hope.
As they sit near the bottom of the East, they stand a good chance at landing a top lottery pick in the upcoming draft. Among a list of high-profile names LaMelo Ball is one of the more intriguing prospects and, according to his brother Lonzo, he’s one who would fit with the Orange and Blue.
“Wherever he lands, he’s gonna help out a lot. Anybody could use him,” Lonzo Ball told The Post in a brief exchange before the Pelicans’ 123-111 victory at the Garden.
When asked if LaMelo, a 6-foot-7 point guard currently playing professionally in Australia, would be an ideal fit with the Knicks having a need at this position, Lonzo Ball replied, “For sure.”
As a young guard who can score in myriads of ways, LaMelo would be a good fit just about anywhere.
In New York, with the Knicks, beside R.J. Barrett, he could thrive. It’s no secret that the Ball family embraces the spotlight. New York is the biggest basketball platform in the world, and Melo would be probably one of a few rookies who could handle the pressure of playing there.
Of course, there’s no promise the Knicks will look that direction if they land a top pick this summer. When it comes to them, anything is truly possible.
