The Warriors Are “Dreaming” To Sign Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Golden State Warriors are having a tough go this season. With Steph and Klay ruled out for the season, there’s not much really to play for anymore. As the Dubs boast a league-worst 9-30 record, their eyes are set on the horizon — not just next season, but what might come in the following summer.

The potential availability of Giannis Antetokpunmpo in the summer of 2021 is no secret. Pretty much every team in the league wants to sign him. For the Warriors especially, they have dreams of Antetokounmpo one day wearing their jersey.

In Year 3 of a four-year, $100 million contract extension signed in September 2016, Giannis will face a choice next summer. The Bucks will present a five-year supermax extension worth roughly $250 million, AKA a quarter billion. If he accepts it, hearts across the country will ache. If he declines it, he becomes an unrestricted free agent in July 2021.

He will find a dozen or so teams willing to extend an offer. The Warriors will be among them.

In last night’s meeting, in which the Bucks beat the Dubs by 9, Giannis put his powers on full display. The Warriors no doubt took notice.

To sign a guy like Giannis, it will take some maneuvering from the Warriors. But they will likely do whatever it takes to acquire him. He’s a once-in-a-lifetime type of player and the Dubs know he can keep them atop the basketball world for years to come.

He’s averaging 30 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 5.5 assists this season.
