Winning the MVP award is no easy thing, especially considering how many talented players we see in today’s basketball, and how close the race for the playoffs is as of today, especially in thThe Only 5 Players That Can Win The 2018-19 NBA MVPe West.

Contents
  • 5. Kevin Durant
  • 4. Paul George
  • 3. Kawhi Leonard
  • 2. James Harden
  • 1. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Even so, there are a handful of players that stand out from the pack and that are the main frontrunners to take home the Most Valuable Player Award, but convincing the world that they’ve been better than everybody else is not going to be an easy task.

So, among all of those players that could win the award, what’s the one thing they can do to undoubtedly prove that they’re this year’s MVP? Let’s break it down as we talk about the only true MVP candidates.

5. Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant

We all know that Kevin Durant is capable of, but it seems like nobody’s talking about either of the Golden State Warriors in this year’s MVP race, perhaps because they’re just taking them for granted.

Even so, if Durant steps up over this last stretch of the season and the Warriors manage to hold on to that 1st seed in the West and end up with the best record in the league, he might as well win the MVP.

4. Paul George

Paul-George

Paul George is one of the frontrunners to win both the MVP and the DPOY this year. He’s taking charge of the Oklahoma City Thunder and has them sitting at the 3rd spot in the West while leading the league in steals.

If he can take the Thunder all the way to at least the 2nd seed and average over 30 points per game, he’s a lock to win the MVP. In order to achieve that, he needs to average 32.7 points per game over the last 24 matchups of the season, which seems likely, to be honest.

3. Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard has proved his doubters wrong this year. He’s shown that he’s not a system player and that he’s the best two-way player in the world when healthy while leading his Toronto Raptors.

The Raptors can still have the best record in the league with Kawhi on top of them, but with James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo having way better stats than him, maybe him winning the MVP is a bit of a long shot.

2. James Harden

Why James Harden Should Win His 2nd Straight MVP Award

James Harden is having one of the best seasons on NBA history, at least offensive-wise. The reigning MVP has done it all to lead his Rockets to the playoffs even despite injuries from Clint Capela and Chris Paul.

He’s a lock to win the Scoring Title once again and his historic streak of games scoring at least 30 points is going to be really tough to beat.

Still, he needs to lead the Rockets to at least, the 2nd seed in the West in order to win the MVP.

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis-Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo hasn’t taken his feet off the gas all year long. He’s the best player in the East right now even without a consistent jump shot, and he’s leading the Milwaukee Bucks to the best record in the league.

So, if Giannis wants to win the MVP, he just has to stay healthy and keep on pushing for the Bucks to have home court advantage throughout the playoffs, something that seemed quite unlikely at the beginning of the season with everybody talking about Toronto, Boston, and Philadelphia.
