The Houston Rockets were one of the most surprising teams the prior campaign, and everybody was pretty much rooting for them as the only team that could stand a chance against the Golden State Warriors.
Nonetheless, Chris Paul’s injury took a major toll in the Rockets’ chances in the Western Conference Finals, so despite taking the Dubs the distance to 7 games and having home court advantage, they weren’t able to get the job done.
Even so, Houston is still looking as one of the toughest teams in the Western Conference, but we just feel they don’t have what it takes to make it to the Finals this year, and today, we’ll let you know why.
5. Their Roster Was Better Last Year

The Houston Rockets just lost a couple of key 3 and D players throughout the offseason in Luc Mbah ‘A Moute and Trevor Ariza, not to mention the fact that they also saw Joe Johnson leave the team due to the few minutes he was given to upon his arrival.
Houston was perfectly built to match up against the Golden State Warriors with switchable defenders that could also push up-tempo, lead the break and pull up from distance, something they lack this year.
4. LeBron is in the Western Conference Now

The Houston Rockets only had to beat the Golden State Warriors as a legit Championship contender in the West and even managed to find their way to the 1st seed in the toughest Conference.
Nonetheless, the Kings’ now in town and they’re not going to have it as easy as they did the prior campaign, with James bound to take the Lakers to Championship contention and a top 3 seed.
3. Carmelo Anthony

Yes, Carmelo Anthony is actually one of the Rockets’ biggest liabilities right now, and the team’s odds to win the Championship actually went down from 4.9% to 3.8% upon his arrival, according to Vegas.
Anthony is a ball hogger that’s constantly being torched and exposed in the defensive end of the floor, he lost his offensive touch and is not going to help this team even slightly improve, not to mention his lack of playoff success.
2. The Warriors are Stacked

Just when everybody thought a team was going to have to chance to try and stop the Golden State Warriors when LeBron James decided to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dubs go on and sign DeMarcus Cousins.
This team is set to feature 5 All-Stars in their starting lineup, while a former Finals MVP waits in line as their 6th man. There’s absolutely no way this Rockets roster is able to contain this Warriors squad. Period.

1. They’re Massive Chokers

The Houston Rockets are their own worst enemy. They just lack the winning mentality and mindset to get the job done and make it to the Finals, especially their three best players in James Harden, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony.
Of all of them, only Harden has made one Finals appearance and was a major no-show, and they’re never been able to successfully lead a team to the ultimate glory. Sorry Rockets fans, it is what it is.
