ESPN’s Malika Andrews is a prominent figure in the sports media world today, which unfortunately made her an easy target for comedian Gerald Huston. Huston, who is known to intentionally misidentify individuals to prank them, called her Cari Champion when they crossed paths.
“I’m not Cari Champion,” Andrews said.
Champion worked at ESPN from 2012 to 2020 and was one of the biggest names on the network. She hosted First Take and was later an anchor for SportsCenter as well.
Huston insisted that Andrews was Champion, whom he called the finest woman in sports.
“Unfortunately not, but I appreciate the compliment,” Andrews stated. “My name’s Malika.”
Huston continued to act oblivious and claimed he didn’t know any Malika. When she shared her full name, he wildly called her the “Jaylen Brown girl.”
“I think you’re a little confused, buddy,” Andrews added.
Huston was probably referring to Taylor Rooks there. Rooks, of course, had that famous interview with Brown back in 2018, and is another very recognizable figure from the sports media world.
Andrews didn’t lose her cool despite Huston’s best efforts. The Sports Emmy Award-winner is just the ultimate professional.
You’re going to be seeing Andrews on television for the foreseeable future, too, as she signed a multi-year extension with ESPN recently. The 30-year-old had joined ESPN as an NBA reporter back in 2018 and is now one of the faces of the network’s NBA coverage. Her rise to the top has been remarkable.
Getting back to Huston, he perhaps rose to prominence in the basketball world when he trolled Rajon Rondo by calling him Chris Paul years ago. These two aren’t the best of friends, and the Rondo clearly wasn’t too happy to be called Paul.
More recently, Huston trolled James Harden by calling him LeBron James. Harden hilariously pushed him away in response.
Huston might get in trouble one day if he trolls the wrong person. For now, though, he’ll keep at it, and you wonder who his next target will be.
