Luka Doncic continues to win over Los Angeles not just with his game, but with his leadership. After practice this week, the Lakers superstar surprised his teammates with brand-new pairs of his signature sneakers, the ‘Luka 4s’, sparking excitement, smiles, and a wave of praise from both fans and players.

The surprise came just days after Doncic treated the team to an exclusive Porsche Driving Experience, a bonding activity that reportedly cost thousands of dollars and gave his teammates a thrill behind the wheel. These gestures, both thoughtful and spontaneous, have become a defining feature of Luka’s leadership style, uniting the locker room as the Lakers gear up for a season where he’ll be carrying much of the load with LeBron James sidelined to start the year.

In a now-viral clip, Doncic can be seen leading his teammates into the Lakers’ practice facility, where boxes of his newly released Jordan Brand ‘Luka 4’ shoes awaited. The players’ reactions said it all grins, laughter, and plenty of gratitude. Dalton Knecht unboxed his pair and immediately shouted, “Shoutout to my guy Luka, man! Blessing the team.”

Another young Laker, Chris Manon, slipped his pair on and added, “I got some of the best shoes ever, as of right now.”

The gesture struck a chord beyond the locker room. Fans flooded social media with praise for Doncic, applauding his growing leadership and humility. The buzz wasn’t just about the shoes, it was about what the moment represented. Doncic, who joined the Lakers in a blockbuster trade last season, is embracing his role as the face of the franchise. With LeBron James approaching 41 and easing into a reduced role, Luka knows it’s on him to set the tone both on and off the floor.

These small acts of generosity show that he’s doing exactly that, creating unity, joy, and motivation among a team that’s looking to return to the top of the Western Conference.

Luka’s timing also couldn’t be better. The Lakers open the season without their longtime leader, and the team’s chemistry will be crucial early on. Doncic, who has slimmed down and improved his conditioning over the summer, looks ready for the challenge. His impressive showing at EuroBasket 2025, where he averaged 34.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game, proved that he’s entering the new season in elite form.

But what’s standing out most in L.A. right now is his off-court leadership. Team bonding events like the Porsche experience and this surprise sneaker giveaway are building camaraderie.

The Luka 4s themselves have been praised for their comfort and design, with fans calling them some of the best performance sneakers Jordan Brand has released in years. But for the Lakers, the gift meant more than just new shoes, it was a reminder that their new leader is all in.

Luka Doncic may be known for his scoring flair and highlight passes, but this week, he showed something even greater: leadership rooted in connection.
