Steven Adams may have surprised fans when he shared his new set-up in the bedroom of his new house. He shared a picture of his bedroom on his Instagram story, where all that can be seen in the room is an air mattress, a pillow, and an iPad on the window sill.
Fans would undoubtedly be surprised to see such a minimalist and stripped-back layout in Adams’ house, considering he is an NBA player who makes millions of dollars, has presumably earned a lot of money in his career, and could probably afford a bigger house with a bigger room and more furnishing.
Perhaps this is a temporary accommodation, as Adams has just moved to Houston, and he will be playing for the Rockets this season. He was traded near the trade deadline last season to the Rockets but didn’t play at all as he had suffered a season-ending injury and underwent surgery for it.
Adams is currently entering the final year of a two-year, $25 million contract that he signed while he was with the Memphis Grizzlies. Beyond that, he has earned $157 million across his NBA career.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Adams can afford a much better apartment than the one he showed in his Instagram story, but again, this could just be a temporary setup till he can find something more permanent in the city.
Or, if we want to speculate wildly, it could be an indicator of Adams’ future, as he might not want to purchase a house in Houston, if he doesn’t plan on sticking around long-term, which is very possible, considering that he will be a free agent at the end of this season, and because the Rockets are not a playoff team at this point.
What Is The Rockets’ Ceiling Next Season?
The Houston Rockets have been in a rebuild for over three years now. Since they traded James Harden, the franchise has been trying to get back to developing young players so that they can eventually get back to being a contender in the NBA. But that hasn’t worked out the way they hoped.
Players like Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun showed initial signs of promise, but they haven’t developed into the star players many expected them to. Green especially has been disappointing, given that he was the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, right behind Cade Cunningham.
The Rockets hired former Celtics head coach Ime Udoka to try and get them to a competitive level, but that didn’t yield the results they expected as of yet, with the Rockets missing out on the playoffs, despite paying big money to Fred Van Vleet and Dillon Brooks to be more competitive.
The recent draft choice of Reed Sheppard has been praised, with many considering him the steal of the 2024 NBA Draft class. But the Rockets still do not look like they will be a playoff team next year unless they execute a big trade during the season to land a star.
