As LeBron James’ longtime associate, friend, and business partner, Maverick Carter certainly has inside knowledge when it comes to the King. So when he appeared in a recent airing of the Pat McAfee show, the fans made sure to pay attention when he laid out James’ vision for the future.

“We’ve been involved with Liverpool since 2011, it’s been a great ride. We’ve had a fun time and Fenway Sports Group is the best,” said Carter. “LeBron is dead set on owning an NBA team but he’s still playing. I have no idea how much longer he’s gonna play. I would’ve thought he’d be done a few years ago but he’s still letting the young guys know that Grandpa’s still balling.”

Maverick Carter isn’t LeBron’s agent, like Rich Paul, but he’s known to be in the King’s inner circle as one of his longtime friends. Even Maverick isn’t willing to predict the timing of LeBron’s retirement but still believes that James can accomplish much with the time he has left.

After 21 years and counting, LeBron James has secured his legacy as one of basketball’s all-time greatest athletes. At 39 years old, his resume now includes 4 championships, 4 MVPs, 20 All-Star appearances, and 20 All-NBA selections. LeBron has already committed to playing the next two seasons in the NBA, which will include a partnership with his son, Bronny, who was recently drafted by the Lakers with the 55th pick.

By LeBron’s own admission, his career is nearing its end but it doesn’t mean that he’ll fade from the NBA spotlight. In fact, his retirement might only mean a transition from being an active player to being a team owner/governor.

For now, there are no NBA franchises on the market but the league is projected to expand within the next few years and James’ interest in staking a claim has been well documented. Specifically, LeBron is eyeing a potential opportunity in Las Vegas.

The city is mostly known for its gambling and nightlife, but the sports culture has developed in recent years due to the arrival of several professional teams, including the Aces, Golden Knights, and the Las Vegas Raiders. Along with Seattle and Mexico City, Vegas is seen as a premier spot for an NBA expansion team and LeBron James has both the desire and resources to make it a reality.

With a net worth of over $1.2 billion, LeBron will be the one of richest athletes in NBA history when he retires, Besides placing a bid for his own franchise, James will expand his business portfolio as well as his projects in entertainment and production with SpringHill Company.

Clearly, the King has no plans to fade from the public eye. In fact, he may become more active than ever in the world of business, entertainment, and culture. For now, the ultimate dream is to launch a team of his own where he can employ his sons and carry out his vision of the perfect NBA franchise. It may take years to get there, but LeBron James always has a plan and he will do everything in his power to make it a reality.
