Jeanie Buss has been vocal in her support for Bronny James, the team’s second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. In a recent interview on AM 570 LA Sports, Buss shared her thoughts on Bronny’s potential and the qualities that make him stand out:

“We have to let the kid have an opportunity to play and prove that he should be in a Laker uniform. Everything that we’ve seen from him and about him and his work ethic, just some of the things he’s had to overcome being the son of a big star.”

“He works hard, he’s dedicated. He really wants to do this. And if we can have a roster of players with that same mentality, then I think the sky is the limit.”

Despite the criticism and skepticism surrounding the selection of Bronny, largely due to his famous last name, Buss has emphasized the young player’s work ethic and dedication as key reasons for giving him a chance to prove himself.

Buss’s praise for Bronny is rooted in the challenges he has faced growing up as the son of LeBron James, one of the greatest basketball players of all time. She acknowledges the added pressure and scrutiny that comes with such a legacy, but she also highlights Bronny’s determination to carve out his own path in the NBA. His work ethic, Buss suggests, is a testament to his commitment to the game and his desire to succeed on his own merits.

During the Las Vegas Summer League, Bronny showed glimpses of his potential, though his overall performance left room for improvement. He averaged 6.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game, shooting 32.7% from the field and just 13% from three-point range. Despite the modest numbers, Buss remains optimistic about his future, noting that the Lakers are in no rush to push him into a prominent role immediately.

The plan for Bronny’s rookie year is to start him in the G League, allowing him to develop at his own pace and adapt to the demands of professional basketball. Buss’s comments reflect a broader vision for the Los Angeles Lakers, one that values hard work, resilience, and the development of young talent. For Bronny, this support from the top of the organization provides a strong foundation as he embarks on his NBA journey.
