Trail Blazers star Anfernee Simons talked to Chris Haynes for a recent interview. Haynes brought up the story Chauncey Billups told about a player of his posting a dunk highlight at halftime while the team was down 18. Simmons provided some more insight into his and his teammates’ reaction to that incident.

“Nah, that wasn’t me. I don’t like posting highlights after the game after we lose. It just doesn’t feel right doing that type of stuff. It wasn’t me. It was crazy, everybody was in the locker room like ‘Did he just do that? No way he did that. No way.’ But we sent somebody back there to fix it for him. It’s just, sometimes they don’t know. You don’t know what you don’t know. All the vets on the team corrected that pretty quickly.”

One can imagine the frustration in the locker room when this incident occurred. Most basketball players are very competitive human beings. And to see one of their teammates celebrate their own personal highlight while the whole team is suffering a massive defeat can be perceived as disrespectful and not in keeping with team harmony.

Neither Billups nor Simons would reveal who the player is, which is why fans have been speculating rampantly about which player it could have been. From Simons’ statement, if the veterans in the locker room were the ones to address the situation, it would suggest that it was one of the younger Blazers stars who committed the infraction.

Anfernee Simons On The Move Soon?

Recently, it was reported that Anfernee Simons is on the trading block for the Trail Blazers. The Blazers had initially decided to build around Simons once they committed to the rebuilding process, especially after trading Damian Lillard to the Bucks. But it appears they may be ready to move on and focus on building around Scoot Henderson.

Simons is a good young scorer in the NBA, despite being one of the worst teams in the NBA last season. In the 2023-24 NBA season, Simons averaged 22.6 points, 5.5 assists and 3.6 rebounds. He spent a little under half the season on the sidelines with injury concerns, which could affect his value.

Teams around the league have stayed relatively quiet when it comes to potentially acquiring Simons as part of a trade.

There are far more valuable assets available on the trade market right now that suit teams looking to win in the immediate future. And while Simons is a good player, he is not going to help a team win a championship or make a deep playoff run just yet.

Simons is a young player, at just 25 years old, and could take a massive leap in the next few seasons when it comes to his development. However, his size, and his defensive abilities make him a bit of a concern for any coach or general manager looking to add him to their roster. Still, his situation is one to keep an eye on.
