Nick Young, while speaking on “Gil’s Arena,” expressed his excitement about the Boston Celtics winning the NBA championship.

“Let’s give it up for America. Because we won baby. America won baby. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown did it for America. They put Luka a**out. Oh my god. I got so tired of everybody talking about these foreigners and sh*t.”

“America is here baby. It’s America’s league baby. It’s America’s league. I hope y’all see it. Tatum here. Motherf***ing Brown.”

For Young, this victory was significant not just because of the Celtics’ triumph but also because it symbolized a win for American players in the NBA. He highlighted the achievements of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, celebrating their success as a victory for American basketball.

Young expressed relief and joy that Luka Doncic, a non-American player, did not win the championship. He mentioned his frustration with the growing attention on international players, emphasizing that the NBA is “America’s league” and taking pride in Tatum and Brown’s accomplishments.

The Dallas Mavericks, led by Luka Doncic, had a challenging journey to the NBA Finals, overcoming some of the best teams in the Western Conference. Despite their efforts, the Mavericks fell to the Celtics in five games. While many celebrated Boston’s victory, Young was particularly excited about Doncic’s defeat, underscoring his view that the NBA should remain dominated by American players.

Young’s comments suggest a sentiment that values the success of American players over international ones. He praised Tatum and Brown for their performance and seemed more elated by the fact that a team led by American players won the championship.

Despite Young’s remarks, the NBA continues to see an increasing number of international players making significant impacts in the league. The league’s top players, including Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Luka Doncic, have consistently been among the front-runners in MVP races and have shown that talent transcends national boundaries.

The NBA has long promoted the inclusion of international players, hosting preseason games overseas and encouraging athletes from various countries to compete in the league. While Young’s comments reflect a certain pride in American basketball, the league’s diversity has only enriched its competitive nature and global appeal.

Nick Young’s celebration of the Celtics’ victory highlights his pride in American basketball and his desire to see American players remain dominant in the NBA. However, the continued success of international players demonstrates that the league’s global reach and inclusivity are here to stay.

The Top Of The League Is Still Dominated By International Stars

While the Boston Celtics’ championship win with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the way was a significant achievement, it’s clear that the top tier of the NBA is dominated by international players.

When considering the five best players in the league today, my choices are Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Anthony Edwards. While players like Jalen Brunson and Joel Embiid are close contenders, this selection represents a blend of exceptional talent and consistent performance.

The MVP race this past season featured Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Doncic, with Jokic securing his third MVP award in four years. This marks a continued trend of international dominance in the MVP category, as the last American to win the award was James Harden in 2018.

Although Joel Embiid won the MVP in 2022, he is generally considered an international player, having not committed to Team USA at the time.

The recent playoff performances have solidified the top two spots in the league for Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic. Their ability to lead their teams and impact games consistently places them ahead of others in the current landscape of the NBA.

The Celtics’ triumph with Tatum and Brown, while impressive, doesn’t necessarily alter the reality that international stars are setting the benchmark in the league. Even at their peak, Tatum and Brown are not considered top-five players. This distinction underscores the significant influence international players have on the game today.

The dominance of international players is a positive development for the NBA. It highlights the global reach and appeal of the sport, bringing diverse playing styles and talents into the league.

This international influence enriches the NBA, making it a more competitive and exciting environment for players and fans alike. The league’s top echelon being led by international stars is a testament to the global evolution of basketball, ensuring the sport continues to grow and thrive worldwide.
