During a pre-parade interview with Brian Scalabrine, Jrue Holiday shared his reflections on transitioning from playing against the Boston Celtics to joining their roster.

“You know, it can be a little bit intimidating. Fans can really get crazy, really start to fight you and all that, but I’m glad I’m on this side now.”

Previously with the Milwaukee Bucks, Holiday found the atmosphere at TD Garden to be intense and sometimes intimidating. He mentioned how passionate and fierce Celtics fans could be, often creating an environment that felt confrontational. Now that he is on the Celtics’ side, he expressed relief and appreciation for the support from those same fervent fans.

When asked about his initial feelings upon joining the Celtics, Holiday admitted to feeling nervous due to his past interactions with the team.

“I was a bit nervous. There was a couple things that I think I did to the Celtics at the time that they probably didn’t like, but again, once I knew that I got that call, just overjoyed and excited and knew that we had something special.”

Despite any prior tension, his excitement quickly overshadowed any concerns once he knew he would be part of the Celtics. He felt a strong sense of joy and anticipation, recognizing the potential for something special with his new team.

Holiday’s journey to the Celtics involved a series of trades. Initially traded from the Bucks to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the Damian Lillard deal, the Celtics swiftly acquired him, recognizing his value in strengthening their lineup.

Throughout the Celtics’ title run, Holiday’s contributions were significant. He became their best perimeter defender, playing a crucial role in their defensive success. His performance statistics for the season included averages of 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, with a shooting efficiency of 48.0% from the field and 42.9% from three-point range.

His defensive prowess earned him a place on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, marking his third selection to the second team and his sixth overall defensive accolade in his career.

Recognizing Holiday’s importance to the team, the Celtics secured his future with a four-year extension worth $135 million just before the start of the playoffs. This move underscores their commitment to keeping Holiday as a core part of their roster for years to come.

Holiday’s addition to the Celtics proved to be a key factor in their championship victory. His ability to integrate into the team, combined with the support of the passionate Celtics fanbase, highlighted his pivotal role in their success. As he celebrated with the team, his previous experiences as an opponent transformed into a source of strength and unity within the Celtics’ dynamic.

The Bucks Have Given The Key To A Celtics Dynasty

The Milwaukee Bucks once boasted one of the strongest trios in the Eastern Conference with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday. However, last season saw Middleton struggle to regain his form after returning from injury midseason, while Giannis missed crucial games due to his own injuries.

These setbacks led to the Bucks suffering a surprising first-round exit at the hands of the 8th-seeded Miami Heat in just five games.

In response to their disappointing playoff performance, the Bucks made significant changes, including firing head coach Mike Budenholzer and trading for Damian Lillard. However, in their eagerness to revamp their roster, they allowed Jrue Holiday to be traded, a move that would later prove to be a grave mistake.

The Boston Celtics, quick to recognize Holiday’s value, acquired him and seamlessly integrated him into their already formidable lineup.

While Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown remained the focal points, Holiday’s defensive prowess and leadership, coupled with the emergence of Derrick White and the addition of Kristaps Porzingis, transformed the Celtics into an unstoppable force. This potent combination led the Celtics to their 18th NBA title, further solidifying their position as a powerhouse in the league.

Meanwhile, the Bucks struggled to find cohesion with their new lineup. Despite having the star power of Giannis and Lillard, injuries and a coaching change disrupted their rhythm, resulting in another early playoff exit. The absence of Holiday’s defensive acumen and steady presence was palpable, highlighting the impact of his departure.

In hindsight, the Bucks’ decision to part ways with Holiday may have inadvertently handed the Celtics the key to starting a dynasty. Holiday’s addition not only bolstered the Celtics’ defense but also provided invaluable experience and stability, crucial elements in their championship run.

As the Bucks continue to search for the right formula, the Celtics stand poised to dominate, potentially ushering in a new era of sustained success.
