Kyrie Irving seems to have absolutely no filter when it comes to speaking his mind. And that is one of the reasons why he is revered and criticized at the same time. From harsh facts about the NBA to why the Nets’ superteam did not work out, Irving has spoken on some very interesting topics this offseason on his stream.
In a clip that recently went viral on social media, Irving was seen calling out the celebrity culture and essentially saying that any celebrity who does not stand on their morals and principles is being a “terrible actor” for the rest of the world.
“This whole celebrity idea is eroding. The whole fame idea is eroding. That sh** was sold to us y’all. You got people out here that are human, that are acting every day of their lives. They’re not even real.”
“They are just on NPC sh**, every day they’re acting. They don’t even know the world is a stage, dog, and it’s a lot of terrible actors. It’s a lot of terrible actors out here. The world is a stage and a lot of terrible f***ing actors.”
“The whole idea of celebrity dog, if you’re not a real person and you can’t stand on your morals and principles out here, move out of the way. You can’t stand on any morals and principles out here as a person that’s trying to see this world become better, move out of the way for the time being.”
In a way, what Kyrie Irving is trying to say is, if you’re a person who has the resources and a platform to potentially make a positive change in the world but you refuse to stand on your morals and principles for a personal gain or to be accepted in a society that you would generally have an issue with, then you don’t deserve to be paid attention to.
Which, if you think about it, makes sense. But since it’s Kyrie Irving who said it, and his choice of words was rather grandiose, he faced some criticism on social media as well. The fans were, however, surprisingly supportive as well.

“So, Kyrie thinks the world is a staged performance? Folks have been saying that for years, but I guess it hits different when you realize NBA players are just actors following scripts, too. What’s next, flat Earth hoops?”
“Why don’t they drop names when they say these things?”
“The NBA needs to sponsor a space visit for Kyrie.”
“Kyrie gets it, always has.”
“I believe him, no, it’s authentic nowadays. Just trying to keep an image.”
“This is deep af to you when you’re an idiot detached from the real world.”
While fans brought up some very questionable points, the main takeaway here for me was that Kyrie Irving is often like Kobe Bryant when it comes to giving advice or just talking. You may not get it at first, but when you think about it later or witness a situation in your life, you will realize how Irving was making sense.
The Mavericks guard is likely sidelined for the 2025-26 season as well after sustaining an ACL tear that abruptly ended his 2024-25 campaign in March. We expect he will be active like this on stream a lot more throughout the year and drop wise words like this that also cause a stir at the same time.
