Kyrie Irving spoke to NBA TV after Game 4 of the NBA Finals, where the Mavericks destroyed the Celtics, 122-84. Irving was asked what he thinks of the Mavericks’ chances to come back from being 3-0 down to win a championship. He noted that the Mavs have no choice but to look forward to doing that. He praised the team for bringing high energy at the start of the game.

“We have no choice now but to look forward to that. To making history. That’s what the nature of this business is. You get a small amount of games, a small sample size. But I think what you saw today at the beginning of the game was our energy being very high, everybody being very poised, very lax and to the moment, but taking it to their defenders.”

He also added that the Celtics players talking trash to them and being competitive lit a fire under some of their role players, and they needed that because that motivated those players to better help Kyrie and Luka Doncic.

“And we saw a little ish talking too that we needed in this series just to get our guys going. Not everybody is just going to be a laid-back competitor out here. We need some of our guys that are coming in to help me and Luka to be able to bring that energy and bring the force.”

Irving has some experience in overcoming major deficits and making history. Irving was part of the 2016 Cavaliers team that overcame a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals to win the NBA championship. Irving was a crucial part of that series and may need to replicate those performances to help the Mavs make history.

Joe Mazzulla Tells Celtics Players To Earn The Win

After the game, Joe Mazzulla spoke to the press about the Mavericks’ blowout win over the Celtics. Mazzulla praised the Mavs for their performance and told his players that they would have to earn every win going forward in this series if they wanted to win the NBA championship.

“Listen, Dallas is a great team. And you’re going to have to earn it. There’s a lot of stuff that we can control. We’ll get back on the film and we’ll watch that, and we’ll try to be disciplined and controlled.”

Irving’s performance against his former team was great, as he put up 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists to help the Mavericks stay in the series. Now the Mavs will face their most daunting challenge yet – going to the T.D. Garden for an elimination game.

The Mavericks are staring down the barrel of the gun and must stay locked in and focused like they were tonight if they want to somehow cut this deficit down and make a play for the NBA championship. It will not be easy, and the Mavericks will have to play some inspired basketball to do so. But tonight showed us that the Mavs are capable of doing just that.
