Anthony Edwards delivered a pretty succinct review of what he thought the problem was for him and the Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals. Edwards noted that he and the team never clicked together in the series, unlike their previous series against the Suns and the Nuggets.

“We never clicked all together as a team in this series. Not even one game. I think that was the main thing. The last two series, we were all clicking at one time making shots and stuff. We weren’t clicking at one time here.”

Edwards and the Timberwolves were soundly defeated by the Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals, losing in five games. While the Timberwolves were able to avoid getting swept by winning Game 4, the Mavericks closed the door on any comeback as they defeated them in Game 5 to advance to the NBA Finals.

Edwards had a great performance in Game 5, putting up 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. But his contributions were not enough to overcome both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving scoring 36 and leading the Mavs to a 124-103 win on the Timberwolves’ home court.

While he played well in Game 5, his performance against the Mavericks in this series was not great. Edwards put up good numbers, averaging 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.8 assists. But a look at his shooting numbers shows he was poor on the court, shooting just 43% from the field. While he scored a lot of points, he was inefficient while doing so.

Edwards and the Timberwolves will now go back to the drawing board and reset ahead of the next season. They had a spectacular playoff run, sweeping the Phoenix Suns, who were one of the favorites, and then eliminating the reigning NBA champions Denver Nuggets. Edwards showed that he is a superstar, and the Timberwolves are a team to watch over the next few years.

Edwards And The Timberwolves Will Rise Again

Anthony Edwards showed why he is one to watch in the coming years. He was absolutely great during these playoffs. In fact, NBA analyst Mike Greenberg claimed that Anthony Edwards would be the next superstar to win the most championships in the next 10 years.

“I will give you the guy who I think right now you can include Luka, you can include Giannis, you can include Jokic, you can include anyone you want. Over the next 10 years, the guy I think will win more championships than any of them is Anthony Edwards.”

“If you were telling me I could start a team with any of them right now, that’s who I would take. He, by the way, is 22 years old. He does do it on both sides of the floor. And he is the heir to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.”

Anthony Edwards had an amazing playoff run this year, averaging 27.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in 16 games in the 2024 playoffs. His performances against the Suns and the Nuggets were crucial in the Timberwolves eliminating them in the playoffs.

This offseason will be very important for the Timberwolves, as they look to retool their roster to attempt to win the NBA championship once again. With Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns as their two building blocks, they can build a strong roster that will pose a challenge to any team in the NBA looking to take them on.
