Patrick Beverley drew the ire of the basketball world for his actions during and after Game 6 of the first-round series between the Indiana Pacers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Toward the end of the game, Beverley threw a basketball at some of the Pacers fans twice, and he has now apologized for his actions.
“Unfortunate situation that should have never happened,” Beverley said on The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone. “What I did was bad, and that should have never happened. I have to be better and I will be better. That should have never happened, regardless of what was said, that should have never happened, simple as that.”
NBA insider Shams Charania had reported what led to Beverley throwing the ball at the fans, was a fan yelling, ‘Cancun on three.’ The 35-year-old made it clear it was more than just that.
“Let’s just say it was more than ‘Cancun on three’,” Beverley continued. “… I’ve been called a lot of stuff in this league. I haven’t been called that one. Still inexcusable, it doesn’t matter what was said. I have to be better and I will be better.”

Beverley claimed that he could have asked for some fans to be kicked out considering some of the things that were said to him. He stated that security even asked him if he wanted someone removed, but he said no, as he does not want people who paid to watch them play to get kicked out.
Beverley added that while the winners get bragging rights, they can’t just say whatever. Some fans he claimed made some very disrespectful remarks but did apologize, so it was all fine with them. A certain small group, though, crossed the line and in response, he did what he did. Beverley made it clear, though, that it won’t happen again.
The damage has been done, however, and I struggle to see how Beverley does not get suspended by the NBA. That was a terrible look for the league and considering his history, they’re not going to go very easy on him.
Patrick Beverley Also Apologized To Malinda Adams
Throwing the ball at fans twice was bad enough, but more was yet to come. During his postgame press conference, Beverley told ESPN producer Malinda Adams that she couldn’t interview him as she hadn’t subscribed to his podcast. That did not go down well with anyone, but Adams revealed Beverley did call her to apologize.
“I want to thank everyone for their kind words and support,” Adams wrote. “I am humbled. Patrick Beverley just called me and apologized. I appreciate it and accept it. The Bucks also reached out to apologize. I’ve been in news for over 40 years and kindness and grace always win.”
I am glad Beverley at least had the decency to do that, instead of just putting out a statement or whatever. It was just a ridiculous act and he might be getting fined for that at some point.
As for this series against the Pacers, Beverley averaged 8.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game, as the Bucks lost in six games. This series might be the last time we see him in a Bucks uniform, as he is a free agent this summer. I think despite these troubling actions, some team will sign him up for next season.
