Patrick Beverley Tells Female Reporter She Cannot Interview Him As She Hasn’t Subscribed To His Podcast

Patrick Beverley has come under fire for his disrespectful behavior toward ESPN’s Malinda Adams in his press conference after Game 6. Beverley interrupted a reporter asking him a question to ask Adams if she had subscribed to his podcast, The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone, and when she said no, he told her not to ask any questions and then to go away.

Patrick Beverley: “You subscribed to my pod?”

Malinda Adams: “I do not.”

Beverley: “You can’t interview me then. No disrespect.”

Beverley: “Can you move that mic please or just get out the circle please for me please, ma’am if you’re not subscribed to my pod? I’d appreciate that.”

That is just so ridiculously unprofessional. In case you thought this was just Beverley being frustrated that his Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated from the playoffs by the Indiana Pacers, that’s not it. Jack Maloney from CBS shared that the guard hasn’t spoken to any reporter in Milwaukee who hasn’t subscribed to his podcast since he arrived mid-season.

“This is unfortunately nothing new, Beverley has refused to talk to any of us in Milwaukee who do not subscribe to his podcast since he arrived at the trade deadline.”

While those incidents didn’t make the headlines, this one sure has. Adams is among the most well-respected figures at ESPN and I wouldn’t be surprised if the NBA steps in. Players can’t just refuse to talk to a reporter just because he/she didn’t subscribe to a podcast.

This isn’t the first time that Beverley has found himself in hot water over his behavior toward a woman. ESPN’s Marc J. Spears brought up that infamous exchange he had with Michele Roberts, executive director of the National Basketball Players Association, in the Bubble in Orlando.

“First the disrespect to Michele Roberts in the NBA Bubble in front of other NBA players and now this… He is who he is. Respect to stellar veteran producer Malinda Adams for her professionalism through that silliness.”

In case you’ve forgotten, Beverley repeatedly interrupted Roberts, when she was talking about the financial ramifications of leaving Orlando. He disagreed with her logic and when Roberts politely asked if she could continue, Beverley said, “No, I pay your salary.” It caused an uproar and the likes of Chris Paul and Udonis Haslem made it clear to Beverley that such disrespect would not be tolerated.

Getting back to the present, this incident alone would have been bad enough, but Beverley also flung a ball at a Pacers fan in Game 6, which the Bucks lost 120-98. The 35-year-old certainly did not cover himself in glory on Thursday and ESPN’s Brian Windhorst claimed he would have to issue a couple of apologies.

“Veteran producer Malinda Adams happens to be one of the most respected and professional people we have at ESPN. Bev, you’re going to have to make a couple apologies for stuff tonight.”

I think throwing that ball definitely merits a suspension while maybe a fine might be in order for this behavior toward Adams. Beverley didn’t want to speak about that incident with the fan during his press conference but I think he probably will share his side of the story on the next episode of his podcast.

As for his play in the game, Beverley finished with 6 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists. It might well have been his last outing for the Bucks, as he is a free agent in the summer.
