Even after an impressive victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, Knicks fans only had one man on their mind: Hawks guard Trae Young. In the moments following the team’s victory, fans went viral for taunting their former nemesis during the celebrations.

Knicks fans have always been a rowdy bunch and it was no surprise to see them in such a cheerful mood after the win. What was perhaps more unexpected was the mention of Trae Young, who isn’t even a part of this post-season. He and his Hawks were kicked out back during the play-in tournament and the Knicks won’t see them again until the fall.

Yet, somehow, he’s the first one on their minds after such an important win. While one can only theorize what was going through their heads, it’s no secret that Young has an extensive history with New York City.

During the 2021 playoffs, when Young beat the Knicks to advance to the Conference Finals, he made an absolute show of their success and he constantly goaded the fans as the series progressed. Eventually, Young and the Knicks became a full-fledged rivalry and it’s clearly something that the fans have not forgotten.

Of course, the Knicks are winning this war for now considering all of their playoff wins in just the last two years alone. They’ve made massive strides in the east this year, and look to be on track to be competitive for many years to come. Meanwhile, Trae is on the trade block in Atlanta as he enters an offseason of uncertainty.

The New York Knicks Can Make A Run

Knicks fans are notorious for their shenanigans in the post-season. Since their recent success, which includes multiple playoff victories, New Yorkers have been eager to express their fandom and they’ve often taken to the streets to celebrate their high points throughout the season.

In this case, they just couldn’t contain their hype after watching their beloved Knicks win Game 1 in convincing fashion. Thanks to 22 points from Jalen Brunson and 22 with 13 rebounds from  Josh Hart, the Knicks came out and set the tone early, getting off to a lead and putting the 76ers on their heels.

While the series is far from over, it’s going to be tough for the 76ers to make up ground here. Besides being outmatched when it comes to depth and top-level talent, their best player (Joel Embiid) isn’t at 100% right now and he’s not looking like himself out there.

While the Knicks have plenty of injury problems of their own, including with Julius Randle who is out for the entire post-season, they are seemingly well-equipped to handle the loss and make up Randle’s offensive production.

With a 1-0 series lead already, this year could be a breakout season for the Knicks and if they somehow reach the Conference Finals, it will be hailed as a massive success for the franchise.

But no matter what happens over these next few months, Knicks fans will be along for the ride and they will make sure to get loud after each and every loss. No doubt, Trae Young will be quietly taking notes and saving the receipts for when they inevitably meet again.
