Dejounte Murray Is Giving Another $10K To Hawks Fan Who Hit A Half-Court Shot

Dejounte Murray seems to think the Hawks fan deserved more than $10,000 for hitting a half-court shot.

An Atlanta Hawks fan won $10,000 for hitting a half-court shot during a timeout in Thursday’s game between the Hawks and the Boston Celtics. Dejounte Murray thinks that reward isn’t enough and wants to give that fan another $10,000.

NBA fans reacted to Murray offering the fan another $10,000.

One said Murray is the man, “Dejounte is the man!”

A fan stated they have a lot of respect for Murray for this gesture, “Mad respect for this move Murray! Love to see this kind of blessing!”

One pointed out that bigger rewards were given out in the past, “They getting petty I remember these shots used to be no less than 100k.”

A fan hilariously stated that Murray is trying to make sure he doesn’t get traded, “Dejounte really trying to make sure that Trae is the one that gets traded.”

One fan hilariously wanted everyone to tell Murray that he hit that shot, “It was me guys tell Dejounte for me.”

Don’t we all wish we were that fan? This individual actually did step on the line, though, and you hope he still ends up getting that reward. As for why Murray was feeling so generous, the Hawks did go on to beat the Celtics 123-122 in overtime, so the 27-year-old was in high spirits.

Dejounte Murray Spoke About His Game-Winning Performance

Murray was a big reason why the Hawks got that win against the Celtics. He had a game-high 44 points and hit the game-winner in overtime. He took 44 shots, though, and Murray hilariously stated postgame that Kobe Bryant would have been proud of his game-winning performance against the Celtics.

“I feel like I played awful. I don’t want to take that many shots, but I know Kobe would be proud of me. At the end of the day, we competed to the very end at a very high level and got a great team win.”

Bryant certainly would not have cared about however many shot attempts it took for Murray to get his 44 points. That win meant the Hawks had beaten the Celtics twice in a week, which was quite impressive. They had also won four in a row at that point but did then lose 122-113 to the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night to drop to 34-40.

Thanks to that winning run, though, the Hawks are now almost certainly going to finish with either the ninth or the 10th seed in the East. Atlanta finished with a 41-41 record and has taken a bit of a step back in 2023-24.

The Hawks advanced into the playoffs via the Play-In Tournament last season but I wouldn’t give them a great chance of repeating that feat this time around. Even if they do sneak in, it is time for the franchise to make some moves.

It has been reported that the Hawks will choose between Murray and Trae Young in this upcoming offseason. Acquiring Murray via trade from the San Antonio Spurs in 2022 just has not worked out for the Hawks.

Murray has performed at a high level and is averaging 22.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game this season, but his play hasn’t led to a lot of team success. Parting ways with him or Young seems like the right way forward for the Hawks.
