Speaking on the PBD’s podcast, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith revealed the latest development on the divide between Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. According to Stephen A., Jordan is still not over his former teammate going silent after the passing of his father.

“When it comes to Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan feels betrayed. When Scottie revealed in his book his feelings for Michael Jordan and how he didn’t even give his condolences to Michael Jordan in person, I was on the phone with Michael that day. We heard about what Scottie had said and Michael Jordan was under the impression that it was just busy, chaotic, and all of this other stuff. He never thought anything of it — but all these years later, when Scottie Pippen had eluded to his father passing away, and how he didn’t give his condolences on purpose, Michael Jordan’s words were ‘I hope it’s worth it. I have nothing else to say.”

While Scottie Pippen had a lot to say about his portrayal in ‘The Last Dance,’ it seems that his beef with Jordan began long before that — and it ties into a murder that happened over 25 years ago. Michael’s father, James, was tragically killed in 1993 while returning home after spending the day playing golf. The incident wrecked the Jordan family and Michael, understandably, took a break from basketball as he mourned. Apparently, Pippen never offered any words of comfort for his co-star and Jordan just figured it was because he was busy. It wasn’t until years later that Michael figured out the real reason why.

For intentions that are still unclear, Scottie decided to withhold condolences on purpose and it forever changed the way that Michael looked at him. To this day, it seems the former championship teammates are at odds and their relationship may never recover.

Former Championship Teammates Turned Bitter Rivals

It’s almost an eternity ago now, but there was a point when Jordan and Pippen were on the same side. During their tenure with the Bulls, they made history together as allies and co-stars. Some believe they’re ere even friends.

After winning six championships in a span of eight years, the pair cemented their place in history as one of the greatest duos of all time and they brought glory to the Bulls franchise in a way that hasn’t been done since.

But after parting ways in 1998, Jordan and Pippen have spent more time at odds than lifting each other up. For Pippen in particular, his behavior toward Jordan has been ice cold.

Over the past few years, Scottie has come out to call Michael all kinds of names and he’s disrespected his game numerous occasions with outlandish takes.

After accomplishing so much together, it’s a shame that this is what their relationship has become — but there’s no turning back now and the damage is already done. Things are personal now between Jordan and Pippen and unless apologies are made we may never see them on good terms again.
