Hornets rookie Brandon Miller caught a lot of heat when he named Paul George as his greatest player ever. But after making his controversial statement to the public, George reached out to him personally to offer some words of wisdom.
“‘People were making fun of him, about me being his GOAT,’ George said, via ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “And I just had to tell him, ‘Man, be you. Embrace how you feel.’ It’s about who inspires you. I know what he meant by it. Obviously, I’m not the greatest of all time to ever play this game.”
Brandon Miller was drafted 2nd overall in 2023 and expectations were low to start the season. Over the last few months, however, Miller has looked like a solid two-way wing, a similar role that Paul George has played throughout his career.
Players tend to follow the guys who most emulate the style they wish to play, and Miller is no different. Instead of following LeBron or trying to “be like Mike,” the Hornets youngster wants to maximize his own skill set in a way that he feels is best suited for his game.
So far, Brandon still has a long way to go before he can compare himself to George or any player on that level but it’s a good sign that he knows who he is and the kind of player he wants to become.
If the Hornets are lucky, Miller will turn out even half as good as George, and it may set them on the path to redemption in the East.
As for Paul George, he’s done his part by talking with Miller, but his reputation will never recover if he cannot win a championship before his career is said and done.
Paul George And The Clippers Need To Make A Run
With averages of 22.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season, there’s no question that Paul George is one of the NBA’s best two-way wing players.
After stints with the Pacers and then the Thunder, George revealed himself to be a quality swingman, whose mix of size and shooting is invaluable in today’s NBA.
Due to his game and smooth offensive stroke, George has caught the eye of various young ballers, including Miller and Carmelo Anthony’s son, Kiyan.
For George to prove himself as a true legend, and a star on par with the best in the world, he’ll need to win a championship with the Clippers. After last season’s first-round exit, the jury is still out on how far George can go but his legacy is very much on the line of the Clippers suffer another early playoff defeat.
At 5th in the West this year, the season has been full of ups and downs in Los Angeles but George is hoping to make the best of it, and he’s angling to validate himself as a true top tier superstar.
Of course, in the eyes of Brandon Miller and other young risers, he’s already the GOAT of the league itself.
