Former Lakers star Lamar Odom is going viral after fans heard about his old pre-game tradition this week. Speaking on ‘the LADE Show,’ Odom explained how he used to handle his nerves before every game, much to the shock and amusement of the co-hosts.

“I used to always jerk off,” said Odom. “Cause when I think about it, it used to take some of my energy. At home, at the crib, That’s why I sometimes would rather be playing on the road.”

There are stories of weird and wild NBA traditions before, ranging from the superstitious to the downright spiritual. LeBron James, for example, used to lay out his clothes every game and demanded his teammates avoid stepping over them. In the case of Lamar Odom, his routine used to be much more personal.

Thankfully, according to Odom, the activities happened in his own house before the game… or whichever hotel room his team was staying at at the time. It’s quite a shocking admission from him, especially considering who he was with for much of his NBA career.

Perhaps the most shocking of all is the fact that Odom admitted to all of this in a public setting, for everyone around the world to hear.

Lamar, who played 14 years in the NBA, is best known for his time with the Lakers, where he served as one of Kobe Bryant’s most teammates for seven years. He retired in 2011 as a 2x champion but his career was riddled with distractions of all kinds.

Arguably the biggest among them was his previous relationship with Khloe Kardashian. The two got engaged just four weeks after meeting and lasted until 2013, when a substance abuse problem led to the end of their marriage… and nearly the end of Odom’s life.

Lamar Odom Had 12 Heart Attacks And Six Strokes In 2015 Overdose

Lamar was great during his time with the Lakers but living in such an active and opportunistic city may have taken its toll on him. Towards the end of his NBA career, it’s no secret that Lamar became hooked on drugs that nearly cost him his life.

As his mental state hit rock bottom, his substance abuse became worse and worse until he was reliant on drugs to just carry on through the day. At one point, things got so bad that Odom’s health took a turn for the worse.

During a particularly brutal stretch, he suffered 12 heart attacks and six strokes — and yet somehow lived to tell the tale. Lamar’s doctors called him a “walking miracle” and still struggle to believe he survived.

While Odom is in a better place now, nobody will soon forget his story and how he was able to come back and beat the odds to overcome addiction for good.

As for his other habits, there’s nothing to stop him from doing what he wants in his own home but it’s probably not a good idea not to telegraph it like that for everyone to hear.
