The Duke vs. North Carolina rivalry game took a controversial turn as Duke star Kyle Filipowski appeared to intentionally trip North Carolina’s Harrison Ingram during Saturday’s matchup. As both players fell to the ground, Filipowski seemingly swung his leg to trip Ingram, preventing a fastbreak. Despite suspicions of foul play, no call was made, and Filipowski quickly limped off the court.

The incident sparked outrage on social media, with many likening Filipowski’s play to former Duke star Grayson Allen’s history of tripping opponents. Adding to the tension, North Carolina players taunted the Duke crowd after securing a road victory, leading to trash being thrown onto the court by the Duke faithful.

Filipowski’s return to the game after the altercation only fueled the controversy, as he went on to score 22 points. His actions reignited discussions about sportsmanship and fair play, especially given his recent knee injury during a court-storming incident at Wake Forest.

Ingram, despite the incident, remained composed and expressed uncertainty about whether he was intentionally tripped. The lack of a call from officials left both teams and fans divided on the matter, with Duke’s Jon Scheyer and North Carolina’s Hubert Davis reacting differently to the contentious play.

The incident may prompt a review from the ACC, potentially impacting Duke’s postseason prospects. Regardless of the outcome, the altercation has once again highlighted the intensity and rivalry between Duke and North Carolina, leaving fans and analysts debating the boundaries of fair play in college basketball’s most storied matchup.

Kyle Filipowski Denies He Tripped Harrison Ingram

Duke’s Kyle Filipowski found himself at the center of controversy after denying any intentional wrongdoing in the incident involving UNC’s Harrison Ingram during their recent rivalry game. Following Duke’s loss to North Carolina, Filipowski asserted that he didn’t intend to trip Ingram while defending a shot, attributing the incident to his foot slipping as he got up from the floor.

Despite replays showing Filipowski lifting his right leg and seemingly tripping Ingram, no foul was called, prompting UNC coach Hubert Davis to frantically motion for a review.

The incident drew comparisons to former Duke player Grayson Allen’s history of tripping opponents, adding to the scrutiny surrounding Filipowski’s actions. While Ingram expressed uncertainty about whether he was intentionally tripped, Filipowski maintained that he didn’t see Ingram as he got up and was unaware of his presence behind him. Replays showed Ingram attempting to jump over Filipowski’s legs as he got to his feet, further complicating the situation.

Ingram’s reaction to the incident and subsequent comments to reporters fueled speculation about the nature of Filipowski’s actions, with UNC ultimately clinching the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season championship following their victory over Duke.

Despite the outcome of the game, the contentious play between Filipowski and Ingram underscored the intensity of the Duke vs. North Carolina rivalry, leaving fans and analysts divided on the interpretation of events and their implications for both teams moving forward.
