Anthony Edwards Picks Kevin Durant As His Greatest Player Ever

Anthony Edwards reveals why Kevin Durant is his GOAT.

While most stars would pick Michael Jordan, LeBron James, or Kobe Bryant as their GOAT, Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards says it’s Kevin Durant who owns the title as his greatest player ever. According to Edwards, he always admired Durant as a kid and holds his game in high regard for being the first seven-footer he’s seen with guard-like abilities.

“My GOAT, man, this gonna sound crazy, but Kevin Durant,” said Edwards in an interview with Malika Andrews. “I mean, I’ve always been a fan, just watching him play as a kid. He’s the first seven-footer I’ve seen put the ball on the floor, scoring off the dribble, so I’ve always been a big fan.”

Kevin Durant is an unusual name to hear in the GOAT conversation, but Edwards isn’t the only one who feels this way. Back in 2021, Nic Claxton named Durant as his GOAT, and LaMelo Ball made a similar statement a year before that. Unlike most fans, the players seem to have a very high level of respect for Kevin Durant’s career, and many consider it on par with some of the best we’ve ever seen.

Durant, a 2x champion, former MVP, and 14x All-Star, has a resume that holds up against anyone and there’s a chance he could add more accolades and trophies before it’s all said and done. Of course, in Durant’s eyes, he’s already done enough to be in contention for the greatest player ever and he’s building up his case with each passing season.

Kevin Durant Says He Can Be The GOAT

The NBA’s all-time hierarchy will always be up for debate but Durant’s inclusion is somewhat of a hot take in the community. When Durant himself claimed that he belonged in the discussion earlier this season, there was major pushback from the fans and it became a topic of discussion for days.

According to Kevin, his resume alone is enough to put him with the best, and his status as a champion, MVP, and 4x scoring leader means that he belongs in the pantheon of legends like Jordan, Kareem, and Kobe. Unfortunately for Durant, his decision to join a 73-win team in 2016 has put a blemish on his legacy that continues to haunt him to this day as legends like Charles Barkey continue to call him a perpetual “bus rider.”

For Anthony Edwards, however, none of it was enough to discredit Durant’s career or disqualify him from the GOAT debate. As one of the first modern-day offensive juggernauts in basketball history, Durant’s ascension as a superstar set the stage for many who came after and it clearly influenced Edwards, who was his No. 1 fan growing up.

Today, a 35-year-old Durant is still going strong in his career and he’s angling to add more to his sacked resume. On a Suns team with Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and big man Jusuf Nurkic, he has his best chance in years at finally taking home the title and it could have people re-evaluate where he ranks on the all-time leaderboard.
