Dwight Howard’s NBA dream seems to have ended after 18 years of playing in the NBA. He couldn’t find a job last season or this season but is still trying to make a comeback, though that seems unlikely.
Amidst the Pistons’ historic losing streak, Howard shared a bizarre video on social media with the names of 10 out-of-the-NBA veterans, including Blake Griffin and John Wall, who could have led the Pistons to a win.
“You know who would win them some games lol …IT, John Wall, Michael Beasley, Demarcus (Cousins), Me. Bench: Do, Kemba (Walker), Lance (Stephenson), Blake (Griffin), Tacko (Fall).”

Howard made this post when the Pistons were on a 27-game losing streak but since then, they added another loss to the Boston Celtics. It was arguably their best performance of the season, entering the second half with a 19-point lead. They somehow blew the lead, went to overtime, and lost the game 122-128. They’re now tied for the longest losing streak in NBA history (spanning two seasons) with 28 straight losses.
Howard’s lineup would get demolished if it was in the NBA right now. There’s a reason most of those players have struggled to find their way back into the NBA. Isaiah Thomas’ begging teams to sign him on social media has become a joke, while the likes of Howard and Cousins haven’t seen any results from playing internationally in recent seasons.
Blake Griffin and John Wall are the only realistic candidates to find their way back to the league right now given they played last year. Kemba Walker is happy playing for AS Monaco. Michael Beasley hasn’t been an NBA-caliber player in five seasons, and something similar can be said about Lance Stephenson.
Howard probably was kidding, given the names he took are veterans that often get memed on social media for trying to keep their NBA dream alive. Maybe some of them can take the Dante Exum path of excelling in Europe or elsewhere and making it back to the NBA, but the names Howard rattled off may just be too old for this.
No Team Wants To Lose To The Pistons
The way the Celtics started this game, it looked like it may just be one of the losses a contender gets handed by a plucky young tanking group. In most cases, the Celtics likely could’ve fallen further behind because it’s a meaningless regular season game in December. However, they played this game like it was the playoffs in the second half.
Jayson Tatum took the most shots he has in a game this season tonight with 31 attempts for 31 points in a rough offensive performance. He kept shooting and staying aggressive because nobody wanted the black mark of being the team that ended a historic losing streak. The Celtics are considered championship favorites and currently have the best record in the NBA, so this meant a lot to them.
The Pistons will face the Raptors next, a middle-of-the-pack team with stars who aren’t necessarily happy about their situation. Detroit has to pull something off or they’ll stand alone in history as the team with the longest losing streak in NBA history. Not just in a single season, but the longest losing streak period.
