Adding to an already rough adjustment period for Clippers guard James Harden, former Mavericks broadcaster Brian Dameris went viral for a rant in which he called out the former NBA MVP for “being the problem.” In his response, the Beard did not hold back in self-defense and went so far as to expose him for being “disrespectful.”
“He doesn’t know me or the situation,” said James. “That would be f*cked up if I went at him and started being disrespectful to him but I can’t. They don’t know anything. They just go off what they see on social media or hearsay.”
Harden has faced relentless scrutiny since joining the Clippers, but he has shown no signs of wavering now, even amid a six-game losing streak. Instead, Harden is on full-time damage control and doing the best he can to ignore the noise and play through the struggles.
“I don’t know exactly what he said, but I pay that sh*t no mind,” Harden said. “I do a really good job at ignoring the noise because it doesn’t affect me. It’s just people talking. I guarantee that if you put whoever is talking in this situation, it wouldn’t be beneficial for them. That’s my mindset, but my focus is getting wins.”
Rock Bottom In Los Angeles
For the first time in weeks, the Clippers showed some signs of life on the court and even held a late-game lead over the Nuggets before giving up a comeback in the closing minutes. Besides being winless on the court with Harden, the Clips have been outscored by 70 points in the first six games. Currently, at 12th in the West, the Clippers have yet to win a road game this season.
Needless to say, it’s been a disaster with Harden and the new “big four” together, and something will have to give for the Clippers to make it work. Whether it’s bringing Harden off the bench, trading Zubac for another big man, or changing the game plan entirely, Tyronn Lue will have to make an adjustment to avoid racking up too many losses this season.
Ugly Track Record For Harden
In the now-infamous Dallas commentator video, Harden is ripped to shreds for his history of burning his previous teams. Despite a lack of playoff success on his resume, Harden has made things very difficult for teams in the past, going so far as to sabotage the season in order to get his way. When the going got tough in Houston, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia, Harden made things ugly to force his way out and refused to take on a lesser role for the sake of winning a title.
So while Harden might disagree with the statement from Brian Dameris, he’s going to have to prove himself this season for anybody to take him seriously. On his fourth team now in just a few years, this could very well be the last stop for the Beard. If he doesn’t swallow his pride now and find a way to have a positive impact on the Clippers, it could have some disastrous implications for the future of his career.
