Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is the face of the Milwaukee Bucks, and there’s no doubt that he has been the key to their success over the course of the last few seasons. We recently saw Antetokounmpo commit long-term to the franchise, with him signing a three-year, $186 million extension.
When speaking to Scott Grodsky of CBS 58 News, Antetokounmpo claimed that he didn’t know how much he signed for, stating that he agreed to a deal because he wanted to stay with the Bucks.
“It was the first time in my NBA career I didn’t know the number of my contract. I just signed it because I wanted to be here.”

The Bucks notably got superstar Damian Lillard in a trade this summer, and it is clear that this played a role in Antetokounmpo signing a contract extension with the franchise. It makes sense that Antetokounmpo waited to commit to the franchise, as he wanted to make sure they were as dedicated to winning as much as he is.
This past season, Antetokounmpo averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game for the Bucks. The team will certainly be contenders for the foreseeable future, so long as both he and Lillard play at a superstar level.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Good First Impressions Of Damian Lillard
On paper, it is fair to say that Antetokounmpo and Lillard are a good fit from a skill set standpoint. Antetokounmpo is a dominant interior force, while Lillard is primarily a perimeter player. It seems as though their personalities are a fit as well, and Antetokounmpo recently shared his positive first impressions of Lillard.
“He’s so quiet, doesn’t say much,” said Giannis on Lillard. “He’s like a little version of me, a guard version. Quiet, goes about his business, takes care of his family, shows up, and practices really hard. When he needs to be vocal, he’s vocal.”
It will be interesting to see if the Bucks can win a championship in the next few years. The team clearly has the talent to do so, and their ceiling will be determined by how well Antetokounmpo and Lillard mesh. It is fair to say that Lillard is the best player that Antetokounmpo has played with during his time in Milwaukee, and we’ll see how the duo does this year.
Many Believe The Celtics Are The Bucks’ Biggest Rivals
In response to the Bucks trading for Lillard, the Boston Celtics made a move for Jrue Holiday, who was sent to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the Lillard trade. It is clear that the Celtics are willing to go all-in to try and win a championship with their own core, which features stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
It is quite likely that this year’s Eastern Conference Finals will feature the Bucks and the Celtics, simply based on the talent on both squads. However, both teams will need to develop chemistry and ensure their best players can work well together.
Hopefully, we will see both teams figure things out during the regular season. It will be interesting to see how well they gel throughout the year, but both teams seem to have players that fit well with one another.
