Gilbert Arenas recently went on yet another long rant, where he showed how the NBA in the 1980s and 1990s wasn’t as great as it’s often glorified to be.
“Look at this, right hand, right court baseline turnaround jumper,” Arenas said. “… That’s what the 80s and 90s is for. Look at the defense, you let him burn and then you make it up by fouling hard. You all say in our era it is soft, look at these fouls, man.”
Arenas then went on to brutally roast the players.
“If y’all ever play 2K man, when you start My Career, these are the players you start off with,” Arenas continued. “When you start My Career and that’s how you start this is it, 60 overall.”
Someone who found that breakdown to be absolutely hilarious was LeBron James, who commented on the post with laughing emojis.

LeBron has often had to hear how he wouldn’t be all that great had he played in the 80s and 90s, so I’m not surprised that he reacted in this manner. A player like him would have been great in every era. In fact, Arenas had said James would have been unstoppable in the 80s and 90s.
Gilbert Arenas Has Always Been Critical Of The Old NBA
While some players try to be respectful of the old NBA, Arenas is not one of them. The 41-year-old has never shied away from speaking his mind, and he has some rather negative things to say about how the league was in the past.
Last year, Arenas explained that players from the 80s and 90s, wouldn’t be able to guard today’s stars, as all they did on defense was foul and hope that the offensive player just gave up. He then went a step further earlier this month.
Arenas said that 1990s basketball was trash, stating that no one could score and everyone was just fouling. He then hilariously claimed he would average 100 points per game if he played back then. Arenas said he would have the ball a lot and those players wouldn’t have been able to guard someone with his skill set.
LeBron James Has His Eyes Set On Winning Another Championship
Getting back to LeBron, he is gearing up for his 21st season in the NBA in 2023-24. James has accomplished so much already in his incredible career, but he’s not satisfied by any means.
LeBron said he’s still seeing the Larry O’Brien trophy in his mind daily, and he is as hungry as ever to get his hands on it once again. The 38-year-old, who averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game last season, is chasing his fifth championship, and he’s got a realistic shot at it as well.
The Los Angeles Lakers made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals last season after making some great trades, and almost all the key pieces from that run are back. They’ve made some solid additions like Gabe Vincent as well and seem to be in a great position to make another deep playoff run.
If James and Anthony Davis are healthy in the playoffs, I don’t think there’s any team in the league that would be looking forward to facing the Lakers.
