Dillon Brooks is Unimpressed With Victor Wembanyama

Dillon Brooks wasn't in the mood to give Victor Wembanyama any kind of praise.

While the basketball world has been enamored with Victor Wembanyama, Dillon Brooks isn’t really in the mood to sing the Frenchman’s praises.

Brooks has never really been the type to shower his opponents with a lot of praise. He usually takes shots at them, as we infamously saw him do with LeBron James, and this was probably the kind of response you should have expected here.

Brooks’ Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs faced off in two preseason games earlier this week, with Wembanyama only playing in the second one. He had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 blocks in the contest as the Spurs won 117-103.

Brooks didn’t get the chance to play against him, as the 27-year-old played the first game and was rested for the second. The Spurs were probably happy that he didn’t get to play against the Frenchman, as you never know what he might do on the court.

Andre Iguodala Says Dillon Brooks’ Crazy Mentality Is Why He Is In The NBA

Brooks rubs a lot of people the wrong way with his antics and attitude. Unless he is on your team, it’s very easy to dislike him, but Andre Iguodala believes Brooks wouldn’t be in the NBA without his crazy mentality.

“There’s certain guys in the NBA that wouldn’t be in the NBA if they didn’t have that crazy mentality… If Dillon Brooks wasn’t crazy, he wouldn’t be in the NBA.”

There is probably some truth to that. Brooks’ immense self-belief helps him to bounce back from adversity like few can. He became the butt of all jokes after that playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers, and while that might have crushed some players, he just brushed it off. Brooks went on to have a successful stint with Canada at the FIBA World Cup, which he capped off with a 39-point outing against Team USA.

He also does a great job of getting under the opposition’s skin with his antics and there will always be a place in the league for characters like him.

Victor Wembanyama Has Shone In The Preseason

It is just the preseason, but Wembanyama has been showing the basketball world why he is regarded as a generational talent. He came into the game against the Golden State Warriors on Friday night with averages of 19.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game.

The 19-year-old is shooting 55.3% from the field and is playing just over 20 minutes per game. NBA fans have been left in awe of Wembanyama, and if anyone had doubts about whether he is the real deal, I’d say he has dispelled those in some style. It’s not just the numbers either, but the way he is playing too, which is just incredible to watch.

Brooks and the Rockets will unfortunately have to play against him four times every season and I get the feeling they are going to get sick of him fairly quickly. It will be interesting to see, though, what Brooks does when he gets his first shot at Wembanyama and we don’t have to wait too long for it, as they will face off on October 27.
