As of right now, Tyler Herro is one of the best players on the Miami Heat, highly regarded by the team for his efficient scoring ability. However, this summer, Herro was frequently featured in trade rumors involving point guard Damian Lillard. The superstar ultimately ended up on the Milwaukee Bucks, and part of the reason for that was the Portland Trail Blazers not valuing Herro in a trade package.

Recently, we saw Herro take a shot at the Trail Blazers following the Lillard trade rumors, claiming that he didn’t want to join them.

“I didn’t want to go to Portland, so I’m glad Portland didn’t want me,” he said per Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I just don’t want to be in Portland. So it’s not personal with Portland at all.”

Herro not wanting to go to the Trail Blazers makes sense, as he clearly doesn’t want to be on a franchise where he is not appreciated. On top of that, the team already has a lot of guards such as Anfernee Simons and Scoot Henderson, and Herro wouldn’t get an opportunity to shine when playing next to them.

This past season, Herro averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game for the Heat. It will be interesting to see if he can take another leap this season, and if he does, the Heat will be a much better team overall.

Tyler Herro Wants To Become Untradeable For The Miami Heat

There is no doubt that being put on the trade market once again has left Tyler Herro extremely motivated. In fact, Herro said that he wants to become untouchable in trades for the Heat following the Lillard rumors.

“Honestly, my goal this year is to get my name untouchable. That’s my goal,” Herro said. “At the end of this season, they won’t want to trade me. That’s my goal.”

There are very few players in the league that can truly be considered untouchable. Usually, they are superstar-caliber talents in the middle of their primes, or players that are extremely significant to a team’s culture. It is quite likely that Tyler Herro will have to improve further to reach that status.

It remains to be seen whether Herro will ever become untouchable for the Heat. However, it is clear that he wants to get to that status by showing elite play on the court, and that is certainly good for the team.

The Miami Heat Did Not Make Any Major Moves This Offseason

Even though a lot of the team’s rivals ended up getting better,  the Heat largely ended up staying put. They also had key losses in free agency, as Gabe Vincent ended up joining the Los Angeles Lakers, while Max Strus left for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team will need to find some way to improve their depth after those departures.

With that being said, most of the team’s core is still intact. Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro are still on the roster, and that is arguably all they need to be competitive.

Hopefully, we see the Miami Heat have a good season this year. We will see whether their relative lack of moves will affect them, but it is clear that the franchise is confident with where they are at.
