This summer, the Miami Heat have frequently been linked with point guard Damian Lillard, who ultimately got traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. The main trade package from the Heat included shooting guard Tyler Herro. It seems as though an offseason of being featured in trade rumors has given Herro a new goal to achieve.

When speaking to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald, Tyler Herro revealed that his goal is to become an “untouchable” player for the Heat.

“Honestly, my goal this year is to get my name untouchable. That’s my goal,” Herro said. “At the end of this season, they won’t want to trade me. That’s my goal.”

That is certainly a lofty goal for Tyler Herro. There are few players in the league who are truly untouchable when it comes to trades, and those players are the top-tier superstars in the NBA. Even an All-NBA player like Damian Lillard can be moved for the right price. If Herro wants to reach “untouchable” status, he will have to develop into a superstar-caliber player, and even if he does it’s not guaranteed that the Heat will never trade him.

Even though Tyler Herro isn’t a superstar-level player right now, he has shown that he can be an efficient scorer during his time with the Miami Heat. This past season, Herro put up 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 37.8% from 3PT range.

Tyler Herro Understands The NBA Is A Business

There is no doubt that Tyler Herro has been featured in a lot of trade rumors since the beginning of his career. Thus, the young shooting guard understands that the NBA is a business. In fact, Herro explained that he wasn’t stressed about the Lillard trade rumors because he understands that aspect of the league.

“It’s different than being a rookie and being in trade talks. I’m a little bit more established now. I’ve gotten paid and that plays a little bit into it… I feel like the Heat still trust me and believe in me and all of that. I’m happy I’m here. At the end of the day, it’s a business and I try to keep that in perspective at the same time because I’m in the NBA making millions of dollars and setting my family up for the rest of their lives, too. This is where I want to be so that’s why maybe I felt a little disappointed in some way, but I understand the business at the same time.”

Though Herro understands that the league is a business, it is clear that he wants to be the sort of player who isn’t featured in trade rumors because of how good they are. Hopefully, he achieves that goal, and it is clear that Herro is more motivated than ever.

The Miami Heat Will Still Be Contenders Next Season

Even though the Miami Heat did not manage to get Damian Lillard, they will certainly be contenders next season. They clearly have the talent to get to the Finals and have retained their core which features Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro.

However, the path back to the championship won’t be easy for the Heat. Their rivals largely got better, with the Milwaukee Bucks obviously being the biggest threat to their chances.

With that being said, the Heat are likely confident in what they’ll be able to accomplish. They will certainly be in the mix once again, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
