Big man Anthony Davis is one of the top superstars in the league when he’s healthy, and is clearly an All-NBA-level talent. His two-way prowess has many believing that he can be an MVP-caliber player with the Los Angeles Lakers at some point in the future.

In fact, when speaking to Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times, coach Darvin Ham compared Anthony Davis to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“I view him as a hell of a basketball player — in the same way I viewed Giannis [Antetokounmpo] when I was in Milwaukee. AD, he is of that ilk, where you just put him out there and he’s going to figure it out. He has the physical tools and skills to do whatever he wants to do on the basketball court.”

It is easy to see why Ham compared the two big men. Both Davis and Antetokounmpo are elite on both ends of the floor and have shown that they are championship-quality big men. Though Antetokounmpo is obviously the better player, Davis has the talent to be on his level if he stays healthy.

This past season, Anthony Davis averaged 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for the Los Angeles Lakers. That is obviously solid production, but Davis has the ability to do even more if he remains healthy and consistent.

Anthony Davis Wants To Play 82 Games Next Season

There is nobody who doubts Anthony Davis’ talent when he is actually on the court. However, the key issue with Davis is durability. It seems as though the superstar will do whatever it takes to stay on the court this season, however. Recently, Davis claimed his goal is to play 82 games with the Lakers this season.

“It’s my goal every year to play 82. I didn’t do anything didn’t different from last summer. Took some time off, got back in the lab, ready to get started. Nothing’s changed, every year I come out and try to help the team win. I am a big piece of the team, and me being on the floor, definitely helps us.

It remains to be seen if Davis ends up achieving this goal in the future. Though superstars don’t often play 82 games in the modern era, it would be amazing to see Davis do it. However, most fans would even accept Davis playing 65 games, which is the threshold to make awards such as All-NBA and MVP.

Anthony Davis Has To Take Over For The Los Angeles Lakers

As of right now, LeBron James is 38 years old and will turn 39 in December. It is unfair to expect him to continue carrying the Los Angeles Lakers. It is Anthony Davis’ time to take over the Lakers and make them his franchise.

In fact, it seems as though LeBron James would welcome the prospect of Anthony Davis leading the franchise. In fact, James declared that Davis is the face of the Lakers, adding that he is already a legend for the franchise.

Hopefully, this is the year we finally see Anthony Davis blossom into an MVP-level player. He has the tools, the infrastructure, and the coaching to be that level of player on the Lakers, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
