Shooting guard Tyler Herro is one of the best players on the Miami Heat, and there’s no doubt that he has played a huge role in their success over the last few seasons. Despite that, the Heat were willing to include him in a trade for Damian Lillard this summer. Though a lot of players are generally stressed about being included in trade rumors, it seems as though that wasn’t the case for Herro.
When speaking to Couper Moorhead of NBA.com, Tyler Herro explained that he understands the business side of the NBA and takes rumors in stride.
“It’s different than being a rookie and being in trade talks. I’m a little bit more established now. I’ve gotten paid and that plays a little bit into it… I feel like the Heat still trust me and believe in me and all of that. I’m happy I’m here. At the end of the day, it’s a business and I try to keep that in perspective at the same time because I’m in the NBA making millions of dollars and setting my family up for the rest of their lives, too. This is where I want to be so that’s why maybe I felt a little disappointed in some way, but I understand the business at the same time.”
It is clear that Herro understands the great position that he’s in as an NBA player, and keeps things in perspective. The young guard also recognizes that the league is a business, and few players are truly untradeable. As we’ve seen with Damian Lillard, even superstars can be moved for the right return.
This past season with the Heat, Herro had a productive season as the starting shooting guard. He averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. It will be interesting to see if he can ever become a star, and the Heat are certainly hoping for that sort of development from him.
Tyler Herro Roasted The Trail Blazers Due To Their Lack Of Interest In Him
One of the reasons that Damian Lillard didn’t end up on the Miami Heat is due to the Portland Trail Blazers’ lack of interest in him. In fact, Tyler Herro threw shade at the Trail Blazers and also sent a warning to the rest of the NBA. Herro was notably asked about playing against the Trail Blazers after their lack of interest in him, and the shooting guard had a funny response.
“Yeah, it’s cool. I’m just ready to play the best,” Herro stated. “Portland ain’t the best so I’m not really worried about Portland.”
As of right now, the Portland Trail Blazers are in a rebuilding process, and Herro could have certainly helped with that. However, the team notably has a lot of guards already, and it is easy to see why they passed on acquiring him.
Tyler Herro Needs To Be A Consistent No. 2 Option For The Heat
There is no doubt that the Miami Heat missed Tyler Herro in the NBA Finals, where their lack of offense was exposed by the Denver Nuggets. If Jimmy Butler is not having a good night, then the Heat offense frequently stagnates.
The goal for Tyler Herro this season is to be a consistent secondary scorer behind Jimmy Butler. He should try and average around 25.0 points per game, and it will be interesting to see if the team will give him the opportunity to do so.
Even though the rest of the Eastern Conference got better, the Heat should still be among the contenders for next season. Tyler Herro’s development will be key in them winning a championship, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
