Superstar Damian Lillard was recently traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, forming a dangerous superstar duo with Giannis Antetokounmpo. There’s no doubt that the Bucks will be among the best teams in the league. However, originally, Lillard desired to join the Miami Heat, who made the 2023 NBA Finals.
Recently, we saw the point guard address his original desire to go to the Heat, with Lillard noting that the Portland Trail Blazers told him they’d be willing to help him join Miami.
“I don’t think it was a secret that Miami was where I wanted to go when I asked for a trade,” Damian Lillard said, per Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints. “When this conversation even started, where it was like ‘we aren’t going to be able to build this team out, we’ll help you get to where you want to go.’ And that was where I wanted to go at that time.
“I was like, ‘okay, this is where I want to go. You said you would help me get to where I want to go.’ It got to the point where it was like no communication to that team. I feel like that was more so trying to start some dialogue to that team more so than ‘I’m not gonna show up.’ Like I was going to show up regardless… I don’t know any other way.”
Ultimately, the Trail Blazers took the offer that was best for them. The Trail Blazers got four players and three first-round picks for Lillard, and it is safe to say that this was a good haul.
This past season, Damian Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game, while shooting 37.1% from 3PT range. He will definitely be a difference-maker for the Bucks, and a lot of people believe that they are a better destination for him than the Heat due to the talent present on the roster.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Already Revealed What The Bucks Need To Do To Succeed
There is no doubt that Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard will have to develop chemistry to have an elite season. In fact, Antetokounmpo once explained what he and Lillard need to do to be successful, and that involves a lot of film-watching.
“We’ve got to watch film together because we have to expedite our chemistry. We cannot just wait to play in training camp and the first game of the preseason and then figure things out. We need to get in the film room and talk to each other to see how we’re going to click. At the end of the day, I know we’re both willing to be ourselves and let the other guy be himself. I need Dame to be Dame, and I think he needs me to be me.”
Hopefully, we will see Antetokounmpo and Lillard’s partnership succeed going forward. The ceiling for the duo is very high, and it is quite possible that the duo will win the 2024 championship.
The Milwaukee Bucks Are A Legitimate Threat For The Finals
It is clear that the Milwaukee Bucks are a legitimate threat to make the Finals this season. They have the roster to at least get out of the Eastern Conference, and could even win the 2024 championship.
The main team standing in the Bucks’ way would be the Boston Celtics. They have a lot of talent as well, with the team notably trading for Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis this offseason.
It remains to be seen how well the Bucks do next season. They will have to develop chemistry and cohesion throughout the regular season to achieve their ultimate goal, and this is clearly one of the most important seasons in their franchise history.
