• Giannis Antetokounmpo shared his expectations now that he’s teammates with Damian Lillard

• He wants to watch film with Lillard and figure out their chemistry before they get on the court together

• His primary expectation is that he and Lillard can complement each other without compromising on their play styles

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard have formed arguably the best duo in the league after the Portland Trail Blazers sent Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee has championship expectations on their shoulders now, something Giannis is acutely aware of.

He stressed the importance of him and Dame finding their chemistry as early as possible to succeed over the course of the season.

“We’ve got to watch film together because we have to expedite our chemistry. We cannot just wait to play in training camp and the first game of the preseason and then figure things out. We need to get in the film room and talk to each other to see how we’re going to click. At the end of the day, I know we’re both willing to be ourselves and let the other guy be himself. I need Dame to be Dame, and I think he needs me to be me.”

If both these players remain their individual selves and can replicate that production, the Bucks are in for a sensational season. Giannis averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists and was an MVP candidate last season, while Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists, being named to the All-NBA Second Team despite being on a franchise that finished 13th in the West.

The Bucks Are Going To Run Into A Fierce Celtics Squad

It seems the East is going to come down to a two-horse race between the Bucks and the Celtics. After Milwaukee made the trade to acquire Lillard, the Celtics knew they had to make a move. They ended up getting the player the Bucks parted with to get Lillard, as Jrue Holiday will be the primary guard-stopper in Boston. This will be a clash of goliaths if they both end up taking the top two seeds in the East and meet in the Conference Finals.

Fans are already salivating at the thought of a clash between these two heavyweight teams, as all other teams are playing catchup to what the Bucks and Celtics have done this summer. This pushes a troubled 76ers squad further back into the mid-table mix, while teams like the Heat, Cavaliers, and Knicks simply haven’t made moves of this magnitude.

Giannis and Dame have made the Bucks stronger, but they are not unbeatable. Ultimately, the plaudits from this trade will be won on the court. If the Bucks fail, it’ll be easy for people to look back on this offseason and say they made a bad trade.
