  • Malcolm Brogdon could be on the move
  • The Boston Celtics already tried to trade Brogdon this offseason
  • Brogdon is reportedly angry with the team for his inclusion in trade talks

Though the NBA season is going to start soon, there is no doubt that trade discussions involving several players are still ongoing. A lot of the focus has been on superstars like Damian Lillard, but it seems as though there are also other players who may be on the move.

A recent report from Boston Celtics insider Adam Kaufmann revealed that point guard Malcolm Brogdon could still be traded in the future. He noted that Brogdon isn’t “actively being dangled” for trade, but is “absolutely on the trade block”.

“Malcolm Brogdon still very much could be traded. I have heard some whispers that the Celtics are still trying to trade him… I have been saying for weeks, for months ever since the trade fell apart, do not be surprised if the fallout from this situation still leads to Malcolm Brogdon getting traded. I still believe Malcolm Brogdon is maybe not actively being dangled out there by the Celtics, but I think he is absolutely on the trade block. I firmly, firmly believe that.” (10:40)

It makes sense that the Boston Celtics would be trying to trade Malcolm Brogdon. They tried to trade him earlier in the offseason in a Kristaps Porzingis trade but eventually acquired Porzingis without moving him. It will be interesting to see whether Brogdon does end up getting moved going forward, and he will certainly have some value on the trade market as he is the reigning Sixth Man of the Year. However, he only played more than 65 games once in the last five seasons, and his durability could be an issue.

Last season, Malcolm Brogdon averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game for the Celtics, while shooting 44.4% from 3PT range. If Brogdon can stay healthy, he fits on almost any team due to his shooting ability, and we’ll see where he ends up in the future.

Malcolm Brogdon Was Reportedly Unhappy With The Boston Celtics For Trying To Trade Him

As of right now, it seems as though the relationship between Malcolm Brogdon and the Boston Celtics is fractured. In fact, a previous report revealed that Malcolm Brogdon is angry with the Celtics over his inclusion in trade talks. It is easy to see why Brogdon would be upset, as he had a really good season with the Celtics and any inclusion in trade talks must be stressful for players.

At the end of the day though, the goal for any team’s front office is to try and get better. It is clear the Boston Celtics were trying to trade Malcolm Brogdon to get Kristaps Porzingis, as Porzingis is a former All-Star and adds size to their frontcourt. However, as of right now, Brogdon remains on the Boston Celtics, and his focus should be on trying to have an elite season.

The Boston Celtics Will Be Contenders Next Season

Even if the Boston Celtics do not end up moving Malcolm Brogdon, they will likely be contenders next season. They have two top-tier players Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, as well as a quality supporting cast. The Celtics don’t necessarily need to make any changes, but it is clear that the team is exhausting every possible option to try and get better.

The Boston Celtics fell short of the Finals in 2023, being felled by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. They definitely have the talent to win it all next year, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
