  • Malcolm Brogdon is angry with the Boston Celtics
  • The communication between the two sides has been unsuccessful
  • The Celtics tried to trade Brogdon this summer

Guard Malcolm Brogdon was moved to the Boston Celtics ahead of the 2022-23 season, and he won the 2023 Sixth Man of the Year award. Though he is still on the team right now, there was a chance that Brogdon would have been traded during the offseason.

This summer, the Boston Celtics explored trades involving Malcolm Brogdon. Originally, the Celtics were in strong talks to acquire Kristaps Porzingis via an opt-in and trade deal that would send Malcolm Brogdon to the Clippers, rather than moving Marcus Smart to get the big man.

“Malcolm is the one I’m concerned about, too, because we’ve heard nothing,” Washburn said. “And he’s angry with the team. So, I don’t think communication between the two sides has been fruitful… He was not happy with how the deal went down. ” (8:14)

It is easy to see why Malcolm Brogdon would be upset with the Boston Celtics for trying to trade him. After all, it must hurt for a franchise to try and move on from you less than a year after acquiring you. With that being said, the NBA is a business, and few players are truly untouchable.

Last season, Malcolm Brogdon averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game for the Boston Celtics. He shot 44.4% from the 3PT range last season as well, and if he can stay healthy, Brogdon can have a big impact on the Celtics.

Malcolm Brogdon’s Health Prevented The Boston Celtics From Doing A Trade Involving Him

Sometimes, deals can be agreed upon and one team pulls out for one reason or another. A reason that a team might end up reneging on a trade agreement is due to a player’s health. In fact, Malcolm Brogdon reportedly had a significant health issue preventing the Celtics from doing any trade involving him.

“Malcolm Brogdon, who was the key piece going from Boston to the Los Angeles Clippers in this [canceled] deal, Brogdon has a health issue, a health issue that as I understand, is so significant, that not only can the Celtics not do this trade, there’s probably no Malcolm Brogdon trade that they can do in the short term.”

As of right now, there is no indication that Malcolm Brogdon is still injured. Hopefully, he will be available for the majority of the season, and perhaps we’ll see Brogdon win another Sixth Man of the Year award. He could still be traded at the deadline even though the team couldn’t trade him this summer, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

The Boston Celtics Don’t Want To Trade Malcolm Brogdon As Of Right Now

Even though the Celtics did explore a trade involving Malcolm Brogdon this summer, it seems as though they no longer want to move him. In fact, a previous report revealed that the Celtics have refused to trade Brogdon to rival teams. The report even revealed that the Celtics didn’t want to originally trade Brogdon, but wanted to balance out the construction of their roster.

Hopefully, we see Malcolm Brogdon help the Boston Celtics win a championship next season. He is one of the best bench guards in the league, and excels is his role as a sixth man.
