- Seattle Storm were trailing 90-85 in the closing stages of their game against Chicago Sky
- Players on both teams bizarrely stopped playing with 15 seconds left and just let time expire
- The Storm were eliminated from the playoff race following this loss
Just when you think you’ve seen everything on a basketball court, the WNBA’s Seattle Storm and Chicago Sky left basketball fans bewildered on Sunday. With the Storm down 90-85 with 15 seconds left, you’d have assumed they’d desperately be trying to get a shot up, but they instead let the clock run out and lost the game.
This is so odd to me… #WNBATwitter https://t.co/PAepwkgp0q pic.twitter.com/rRHjrPoQGO

As the fan points out, even the Sky stopped playing and didn’t even make an effort to guard Jordan Horston (No. 23), who had a wide-open shot to make it a one-possession game.
You can see Jewell Loyd (No. 24) on the other corner asking for the ball, but Horston just kept hold of it. She eventually made somewhat of an attempt to get to the rim, but just passed it out, and time expired.
It capped off what was a terrible fourth quarter for the Storm, as they were outscored 22-10 in the period. Seattle didn’t score a field goal in the final five minutes and were scoreless in the final three.
This was their third-straight loss, which dropped them to 10-25, and they are now officially eliminated from the playoff race. Did the players just give up here because they felt they just didn’t have a realistic chance of getting to the postseason, or were they tanking? Well, only they know.
It isn’t too big of a shocker that this season has been a poor one for the Storm. The legendary Sue Bird retired after last season, and they also lost Breanna Stewart to the New York Liberty in free agency.
Stewart has helped the Liberty have the second-best record in the league at 27-7, and the Storm wish they still had her within their ranks.
