  • McCants’ rookie experience involves zero balance accounts and a shocking revelation

Former NBA player Rashad McCants recently disclosed a startling incident that occurred at the beginning of his professional basketball journey. The athlete, known for his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves and other teams, revealed how he fell victim to a financial scam that left him with an empty bank account:

“I got robbed, my first check. Peggy Williams, she finagled me to become my financial advisor. I gave a black woman an opportunity. How I found out about it was I was getting rookie hazed by KG, bringing the donuts.”

“And one day, I couldn’t bring the donuts in because my bank account was at zero.”

“So I went in the locker room and like ‘Ticket, my financial advisor took all my bread’. She set up a trust. She did all this sh** with our bread, came in, wooed me and my mom and all of us.”

“I remember just getting a call, ‘Like yeah man, uhm, Peggy got us.’ I’m like fu** you mean she got us? She got us.”

The scam artist not only targeted McCants but also duped other prominent athletes, including NBA legend Dennis Rodman and NFL star Ricky Williams.

She managed to create an illusion of trust by convincing her victims, like McCants, to sign over financial control. This manipulation allowed her to access their earnings, leading to substantial losses.

Story Of Rashad McCants

Rashad Dion McCants embarked on a journey that took him from the hardwood courts of North Carolina to the international stage. Born on September 25, 1984, in Asheville, North Carolina, McCants would go on to become a notable figure in both the National Basketball Association (NBA) and overseas leagues.

McCants began his professional career with the Timberwolves, where he showcased his skills as a shooting guard and signed a rookie deal of $1.5 million. He played for the Timberwolves from 2005 to 2009, displaying moments of brilliance and providing valuable contributions.

McCants’ NBA journey also included a brief stint with the Sacramento Kings in 2009. He averaged 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.2 blocks during his NBA career while having career earnings of $7.58 million.

However, injuries and other challenges limited his playing time and hindered him from reaching his full potential in the league. Undeterred by setbacks, McCants expanded his horizons and ventured into international basketball.

Following his time in the NBA, he ventured into the NBA Development League, playing for the Texas Legends during the 2010-2011 season. It was here that he continued to refine his game and stay connected with his passion for basketball.

In 2012, Rashad McCants found himself as an import for the Powerade Tigers of the Philippine Basketball Association during the Governors Cup.

McCants then signed with the French club Strasbourg IG in June 2012. However, his time with the club was short-lived, parting ways with them before even appearing in a game.

He then ventured to China, joining the Foshan Long Lions in November 2012. Unfortunately, his tenure with the Foshan team was cut short as he was waived.

But McCants’ journey continued, as he was welcomed by the Texas Legends in January 2013. His time with the Legends was followed by his release in February 2013, signifying the transient nature of his professional career.

In November 2013, he found a new home with the Brazilian club Uberlândia Tênis Clube for the 2013–14 NBB season.

In 2014, he inked a deal with Homenetmen Beirut of the Lebanese Basketball League, adding another chapter to his international basketball odyssey. In April 2015, his journey took him to Trotamundos de Carabobo of Venezuela for the rest of the 2015 LPB season.

As fans reflect on Rashad McCants’ career, they remember a player who embraced opportunities, faced adversity, and left a lasting impression on the basketball community. His legacy goes beyond the stats, reminding us that the journey itself is an integral part of the game.
