- Paul Pierce thinks LeBron James will suit up for his last Olympics in 2024
- LeBron James last played in the Olympics in 2012
- There was already speculation about the star’s potential participation in 2024
Though the NBA season is over, this summer will still have some amazing basketball for die-hard fans. The FIBA World Cup will happen this summer, with Team USA having one of the best rosters in the tournament.
With that being said, the FIBA World Cup isn’t necessarily the primary international competition of interest for the United States. We often see premier players suit up for the Olympics, rather than the FIBA World Cup. Recently, we saw Paul Pierce suggest that we will see LeBron James suit up for the 2024 Olympics, with the competition being his final one.
“I really think LeBron [James] is going to go. I think LeBron will be there. This will be his final Olympics…I think he’ll go to the Olympics.” (46:20)
LeBron James participated in the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympics, winning two gold medals and one bronze medal. It would definitely be interesting to see him play on the international stage once again, and a lot of fans would likely tune in just to watch James play.
There is no doubt that LeBron James is still an elite player right now, despite being 38 years old. Last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, James averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists while shooting 50.0% from the field. Hopefully, we see him suit up in the Olympics in 2024 and bring his experience and elite play to the team.
Brian Windhorst Provided An Update On LeBron James Joining The 2024 Olympic Team
There has already been some speculation about whether LeBron James would join the 2024 Olympics team. Brian Windhorst provided some crucial details on LeBron James’ participation in the 2024 Olympics, with the insider noting that James usually does not rule out participation “until the end” while adding that typically the star leaves “the door open”.
“He never rules it out, typically, until the end,” Windhorst said in a recent episode of the Hoop Collective podcast. “Right now, he’s dealing with his family issue. But he typically would leave the door open. He has now not played in over a decade. So that’s obviously a factor. Plus, he likes spending time with his family at you know, his boys’ AAU events in the summer, not sure if the Olympics come much earlier, you’re cutting into the heart of the summer there.”
It remains to be seen if LeBron James will, in fact, play in the 2024 Olympics. Though he clearly doesn’t need to do that as his international legacy is set, it is quite possible he will do it for the experience.
