- Wade, a 3x champion, reflects on his NBA career after Hall of Fame enshrinement
- Heat star says his journey is what “books are written about”
- Wade explains what separates his career from other retired stars
As a sure-fire NBA Hall of Famer, Dwyane Wade has nothing left to prove regarding his basketball career. As a 13x All-Star, 8x All-NBA player, and 3x champion, Wade is one of the most accomplished players of his time and he changed Miami Heat history forever.
While Wade is often not mentioned in the GOAT conversation like LeBron James or Michael Jordan, his career stacks up pretty well against theirs. In fact, as he recently admitted in a chat with HoopsHype, he thinks his career stands as one of the greatest ever in the sport.
“To be able to sit back and be like, ‘Damn, you did that.’ Like, I may not be the one that they would talk about when it comes to the debates of the GOATs, right? But my career, to me, is one of the GOAT careers that you can have,” said Wade, “Because of the way I started it versus the way it ended. So it’s a story that is what books are written about. It’s what movies are made of, and I get to actually live that.”

As a 22-year-old coming in, Wade blossomed into a star almost right away, averaging over 23 points per game by his second year in the league. From 2005 to 2016, he made the All-Star team and won several titles along the way with Shaquille O’Neal and then with LeBron James in 2012 and 2013.
As every star does eventually, Wade slowed down and had to call it a career in 2019 after making his final return to Miami, but he can look back with great pride on what he was able to accomplish during his NBA tenure.
Wade Is The Greatest Player In Heat History
While many all-time legends have worn the Heat jersey (LeBron and Shaq among others), Wade is probably the best of them. He stayed loyal to Miami for most of his career and helped put them back on the map during an era of uncertainty
He was also there to build a superteam with LeBron, who helped him bring two titles to the city. So while Wade might not be in contention for the greatest player ever, we can all agree he’s at the top of the list for Heat players, and it’s really not even close.
“As a Heat player, Dwyane is the greatest player who ever put on a uniform for us. LeBron [James] was here for four years and gave us a tremendous lift and helped Dwyane achieve what he wanted to achieve,” said Heat President Pat Riley. “But over the body of work here in Miami, Dwyane is the greatest player who ever played for the Heat. “
