The Portland Trail Blazers are in a staring contest with Damian Lillard with regard to his trade request. Neither team has blinked, as Lillard refuses to play for any team that’s not the Miami Heat, and the Blazers looking to trade him anywhere but Miami.

Blazers’ legend Terry Porter has weighed in and expressed fans of the franchise want to see Lillard be moved and compete for a title somewhere else.

“The fans want to see Dame go somewhere where he has a legitimate chance. The challenging part is that the Blazers organization when you talk about franchise players like Damian, what kind of value can you get back and put the franchise in a position to move forward in a positive light?”

The Blazers are entering their rebuild phase to construct a future contender around Scoot Henderson. In the meantime, the Blazers will want to cash out on Lillard and get maximum future assets for their rebuild.

The Miami Heat simply doesn’t have what it takes to acquire Dame on paper, as Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists last season. Nonetheless, he still might end up getting his way.

Terry Porter Doesn’t Think The Heat Have Enough To Land Damian Lillard

Porter delved into the specifics of Lillard’s trade request and his desire to end up in Miami. Even though the team doesn’t have the assets right now, Porter trusts Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra to continue finding a way to get the deal done.

“I think Damian is going to be traded because that’s what he wants at this time. I don’t know if Miami is going to be a place where he’s going to land because they don’t have enough assets to return. Pat Riley and Spo, two of the most brilliant minds in basketball, I’m sure they’re trying to figure out who they can partner with to provide assets the Blazers will be satisfied with.”

Lillard has ruled other teams out. Even though the NBA has warned him not to say that teams in the NBA will not be comfortable parting with assets to acquire Lillard if they don’t think he’ll be happy with them. It seems this is Miami’s deal to lose at this point.
