Larry Bird and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were two of the greatest players in NBA history and dominated the league during their careers. Jabbar and Bird were on opposite ends of the iconic Lakers-Celtics rivalry during the 1980s. But the duo teamed up together for an iconic commercial.

In 1992, Larry Bird and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar featured together in a commercial for Lays chips. In the ad, Kareem makes a bet with Bird that Bird can’t have just one chip and resist having more. Bird accepted the best, and quickly lost. The commercial ends with Bird shaving his head after failing the bet he made with Kareem.

Kareem and Bird, despite their previous rivalry, clearly had a good time while making the commercial, as both players leaned into their comedic skills and timing. Even though they competed against each other, the two had massive respect for each other.

Larry Bird And Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Are Two Of The Greatest Ever

This was far from the only legend Bird has teamed up with for a commercial. Larry and Michael Jordan starred together in an incredible Mcdonald’s commercial in the 90s, as both players were incredibly popular at the time. But seeing Kareem and Bird together in an ad was truly special.

As mentioned before, Bird and Kareem were part of the iconic Lakers-Celtics rivalry in the 1980s.

During the rivalry, Larry Bird averaged 25.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists against the Lakers in the NBA Finals, and led the Celtics to the 1984 NBA championship. For his performances, Bird was named the 1984 NBA Finals MVP.

Kareem and the Lakers got the better of the Bird-led Celtics over the years, winning the 1985 and 1987 NBA championships.

During their three Finals series against the Celtics, Kareem averaged 26.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He also won the 1985 NBA Finals MVP trophy for his incredible performances.

Bird and Kareem are two of the greatest players ever, and what makes them even more special is the fact that they played for two of the greatest franchises of all time.
