Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant will forever be linked with each other. They are the two greatest shooting guards of all time and Bryant idolizing Jordan led to their games being quite similar.

Kobe tends to be seen as a bit of a lesser version of Jordan by many, but Tracy McGrady believes the former would have beaten the latter if the two had ever faced off in a 1-on-1 game.

“I’m going with Kob,” McGrady said. “I’m going with Kob because I think Kobe was the most skilled basketball player I’ve ever seen. I think he took what MJ was and enhanced that skill set.”

That is certainly an interesting way of looking at it from McGrady that Kobe enhanced whatever he took from Jordan’s game. This isn’t the first time T-Mac has put Bryant on a pedestal, as he once called him the greatest 1-on-1 player he ever faced.

As for who Kobe thought would come out on top, he once told Jordan to his face that he’d kick his a** if they played 1-on-1. This was when Bryant was just 21 years old, which speaks to that supreme confidence he always had.

Years later, however, he seemed more relaxed about the whole thing. When Jordan told him during dinner that his 1991 self would’ve kicked Bryant’s a** even at his peak, Kobe hilariously told him to enjoy the salad and added that they both know that’s not going to happen.

Comparing Michael Jordan And Kobe Bryant

While we’ll never know just who would’ve won if these two played a 1-on-1 game in their primes, we can compare their respective careers.

When we looked at their career accomplishments based on championships and other accolades, Jordan won 5-3. He was ahead in categories like championships, Finals MVPs, MVPs, and career PER.

A comparison of their career highs also saw Jordan come out on top by a score of 5-3. All of these are contributing factors to why MJ is regarded as just a better player than Kobe. There is no shame in coming second-best to Jordan, but being the competitor that he was, Bryant wouldn’t have settled for that.
