Portland Insider Breaks Down What Deal The Trail Blazers Should Accept For Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard could go for a package less than what the Trail Blazers want, so believes a Portland insider.

Damian Lillard is yet to be traded, and his future is still uncertain. Lillard put in a trade request recently, after 11 loyal years with the Trail Blazers. Dame asked the franchise to trade him to the Miami Heat, but the Trail Blazers said that they would trade him to the team that offers them the best package.

But one NBA analyst believes that the Portland Trail Blazers can expect a simple package and they won’t get a better one.

Aaron J. Fentress stated that if Miami sends them a package of Tyler Herro and three first-round picks, the Blazers would have no choice but to take that package, as Lillard has made it clear he won’t go anywhere else.

“At the end of the day. If it becomes – ‘Okay, we can’t move him, who’s the best asset we can get? Gotta send Dame to Miami, gotta get some picks, a third team is going to become involved… They end up with Tyler Herro & 3 firsts, I’m sorry Blazer fans but that’s a legit deal. Whether you like it or not, the Blazers played themselves.”

“If the Blazers honestly thought that in the back pocket, no matter what they did, worst case scenario, they’re going to trade Dame for 5 first-round picks and an All-Star, that’s just foolish… He (Lillard) has made it one team & one team only so here you are. Deal w/ it. 3 firsts & Herro is absolutely fair.”

Damian Lillard, as mentioned above, has made it clear that he wants to play for the Miami Heat. Therefore, other teams will be hesitant to trade for him, as they wouldn’t want to give up assets for a disgruntled superstar who doesn’t want to be there and demands a massive salary.

Will Dame Time Head To Miami?

The Miami Heat are reportedly frustrated over how the Damian Lillard trade has stalled over the last month. It is clear that both sides want this trade to happen, but the Trail Blazers are making sure that they can get the best deal possible out of this.

The Trail Blazers may not have much of a choice, as Lillard has made it clear he wants to be in Miami. Other teams may be deterred from trading away valuable pieces to land Lillard, who might not want to play there.

Lillard is a superstar performing at the highest level. Last season, he averaged 32.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds last season, despite the Trail Blazers playing very poorly. Surrounded by Jimmy Butler and a solid cast of role players, Lillard could be even better if he goes to Miami.
