There is no doubt that Austin Reaves had a solid year for the Los Angeles Lakers, showing that he can be a solid No. 3 option behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis, even in the biggest moments.

This offseason, Austin Reaves signed a new four-year, $56 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. On an episode of the All The Smoke podcast, Reaves revealed that he only wanted to stay with the Lakers, but added that the Rockets and the Spurs were on his list prior to him returning to the team.

“I really wanted to be in L.A. the whole time,” Reaves said. “There was a couple situations that were close, but like I said, I really wanted to be in L.A. L.A. feels like home to me, so that’s really where I wanted to be.”

“Houston, before Fred, and then San Antonio,” Reaves said about teams that were on his radar.

It makes sense that the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs would be options that Reaves considered, as both teams had plenty of cap space and would have given him an opportunity for a big role. However, it is clear that he valued being on the Los Angeles Lakers, and it is easy to see why. The Lakers offer him a chance to truly compete for the championship, while still getting a big role and learning from LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Austin Reaves averaged 16.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 4.6 APG for the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs on their way to the Western Conference. Hopefully, we see that level of production or better from him throughout the entirety of next season.

The Lakers Were Prepared To Match Any Offers For Austin Reaves

Austin Reaves was a restricted free agent this summer, and the Los Angeles Lakers had the ability to match any deal that he got. In fact, they were willing to go all the way up to a deal that was worth four years, $100 million.

It is clear that the Los Angeles Lakers appreciate what Austin Reaves brings to the table, and hopefully, we see him blossom even further next season. Some believe that Reaves can be a star, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
