The Philadelphia 76ers are not having the offseason they hoped for. The offseason after Joel Embiid triumphed as league MVP may spell the beginning of the end for the seven-footer’s time in Philly, as Embiid gave some concerning quotes about his future in Philly

Embiid is seemingly walking back those comments, joking about how he is a ‘troll’ and saying he lost his place as the best troll to his boss, 76ers’ GM Daryl Morey.

“I’ve lost my place as the best troll here though, and it went to Daryl Morey.”

A fan directly asked Embiid about him saying he’d be willing to win a title somewhere else, to which the reigning MVP reiterated how he likes trolling people.

This seems like damage control, as Embiid seemed very sure of what he was saying when he spoke to Maverick Carter. The clock on Embiid’s time in Philly has been running for a while, but it may have a few more ticks left before any drastic trades need to be made.

Will The 76ers Start The Season Intact?

With James Harden explicitly requesting a trade and Embiid’s future coming under speculation, it’s fair to assume that the team decides to blow it up soon. The Harden trade is going to be crucial for the franchise, as that asset should bring back pieces the 76ers can use to put more help around Embiid.

Their offseason signings have been underwhelming, with Paul Reed, Montrezl Harrell, and Mo Bamba being added to a big-man rotation that is monopolized by Embiid. Patrick Beverley is a decent addition, but none of these moves make them likelier to advance past the second round in the playoffs.

The 76ers need Embiid to be his regular season self, who averages 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.7 blocks while winning MVP, during future playoff runs. After all, his 23.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in the 2023 Playoffs ultimately led to the team blowing another 3-2 lead before being eliminated.
