Will Ferrell Shares The Hilarious Story Of How He Kicked Shaquille O’Neal Out Of Staples Center While Dressed As A Lakers’ Security Guard

The Los Angeles Lakers have always been linked with Hollywood, they are very much the team of the stars. And every once in a while, those stars get involved during NBA games, leading to some epic stories.

One such time was when Will Ferrell dressed up as a security guard at Staples Center in 2013. And not only did he pretend to be security but he hilariously kicked Shaquille O’Neal out of the stadium too. He shared the story with Kevin Hart recently.

“And then the best part was, I get a tap on the shoulder,” Ferrell recounted. “We’re sitting and we have a whole quarter left, like what do we do? I’m in my security guard outfit. The guy taps me on the shoulder because Shaq happened to be at the game. So he’s sitting near the baseline, over on the corner.

“And one of his guys is like, ‘Shaq thought that was hilarious. During the next timeout, do you want to throw him out of the game? Cuz he’s ready to leave.’ And I go, ‘Oh, that’s genius, yeah. I’ll stand up and I’ll pretend.’  So the next time that I stood up, I keep looking over at Shaq.

“He’s looking and he’s like… So I look at him like, ‘Hey, no no, please…’ And then, he keeps getting my attention, he’s not doing anything. And I’m finally like, that’s it, let’s go, and I throw him out of the game. And then Shaq and I are hugging each other. And he’s like, ‘You can throw me out any time. That’s hilarious.'”

The incident went viral 10 years ago, with the NBA’s official page sharing the video on social media. Shaquille O’Neal is a true entertainer, he’s a comedian along with being a basketball legend, so it’s not surprising to learn that the whole thing was his idea.

Will Ferrell Also Dressed Up As ‘Jackie Moon’ During A Warriors Game

Will Ferrell’s career has been tied to basketball ever since he played the hilarious role of ‘Jackie Moon’ in the 2008 movie, ‘Semi-Pro.’ And dressing up as Lakers security isn’t the only time he’s messed around at NBA games, he turned up as Jackie Moon and stole the show before a Warriors game at one point as well.

The NBA has become a massive part of popular culture, it’s one of the reasons the league has become so iconic over the years. With the Lakers being good again next season, more celebrities will be spotted sitting courtside once again, although they’ll have to be very entertaining to top what Will Ferrell and Shaquille O’Neal did.
