The Dallas Mavericks have a duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving right now, and it is clear that the team needs to make moves to become a true contender. Though they have made a number of solid acquisitions in the 2023 NBA Draft and free agency, it is clear that there is more to be done.

A recent report from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype revealed that the Dallas Mavericks have an interest in acquiring Kelly Oubre Jr. in free agency. Adding Oubre Jr. could be a great acquisition due to his skill set.

“In other news, the Mavericks have also expressed exploratory interest in several free agent forwards, including Kelly Oubre Jr. and Derrick Jones Jr., league sources told HoopsHype.”

There is no doubt that Kelly Oubre Jr. could be a solid No. 3 option for the team behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. He is solid on the defensive end as well and has the tools to guard multiple positions.

This past season, Kelly Oubre Jr. averaged 20.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 1.1 APG for the Charlotte Hornets. He could have a career season playing off the gravity of two stars in Dallas, but it is likely that other teams want to take him on as well, especially if it is for the veteran minimum.

The Dallas Mavericks Landed Some Key Veterans Already

It is definitely fair to say that as of right now, the Dallas Mavericks have been one of the winners of free agency. They improved their defense and added some 3PT shooting.

Adding Grant Williams in a three-team deal was obviously key for the team. Williams is a solid two-way player, capable of guarding multiple positions and spacing the floor. He shot 39.5% from 3PT range this season, and Williams is clearly one of the better 3 and D players in the league.

The team also managed to sign veteran Seth Curry, who is well-known for being one of the best 3PT shooters in the league. Curry shot 40.5% from 3PT range last season, and he is clearly a player that can punish defenses for loading up on Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

It will be interesting to see where the Dallas Mavericks finish in the Western Conference. They clearly got better as a team, and they could end up being a threat in the West.
