Zion Williamson was one of the most hyped first-overall picks in NBA history when he came into the league, but his inability to stay in shape has severely impacted his career.

Williamson is a two-time All-Star, but he’s only played 114 games in the league, and his lack of game shape has led to injuries at times. Charles Barkley, who has spoken about this in the past, has now given some stern advice to Zion once again.

“He needs to get in shape, playing and simple,” Barkley said. “You know, this is professional basketball. We’re not babysitters. To make the kind of money that these guys are making today, I don’t think it’s a lot to tell guys to get in shape.

“Hey, I don’t know Zion, seems like a good kid, but it sounds to me like he don’t have great people like him. Your family and friends should say, ‘Yo man, you’re gonna screw up your future.’ And it’s not fair to the Pelicans. It’s not fair to the NBA. But the bottom line, he just gotta get in shape. Plain and simple… He just got to grow up.”

These are strong words from Barkley, but the sentiments aren’t any different from the ones that fans have expressed over the years. Zion Williamson had the New Orleans Pelicans as a top seed in the Western Conference when healthy last year, but he got injured for most of it and their season never recovered. He does need to find a way to stay on the court more than anything else.

Zion Williamson May Have Bigger Problems After Getting Accused Of Beating Women

The New Orleans Pelicans star should have had his focus firmly on the new NBA season ahead of anything else this summer. Instead, his relationship with porn star Moriah Mills has become the main talking point above all else. And he might be in serious trouble on that front after Mills accused him of beating her and then trying to pay her hush money to keep quiet about it

Williamson is at a crossroads in his career. He has the talent to become one of the all-time greats. But if he can’t get his life together on and off the court, he might end up being remembered as a bust. Being able to stay on the floor in the 2023-24 season will be the most crucial thing for Zion.
